I recall ODU reciving votes in the past, but I dont know if they have ever been ranked in the top 25 before.

If they continue winning with a relatively easy schedule the next couple weeks they could be ranked.

Nov 29 vs #14 VCU 73-67

Dec 3 @ GMU 7:30 PM ET

Dec 14 vs NCAT TBD

Dec 17 vs GAST TBD

Dec 19 vs UMES 7:00 PM ET

Dec 22 vs W&M 7:00 PM ET

Dec 29 vs MSM TBD
First we have to appeal to the Virginia writers who vote in the AP Poll. There are four of them and apparently only one of them believes beating VCU, Richmond and LSU is deserving of a 24th place vote. Even though Mason is bad, a win in Fairfax will carry some weight with these guys, especially Feinstein and Berman who vote in the AP Poll.

A win over Georgia State and William and Mary will help as well as those two schools are oddly respected as trendy selections by the national media.

Decent chance at 11-1 and we get Charlotte early in C-USA play. Too bad Ed or any of the DP aren't involved in the AP poll and Shaka and Tim Floyd are the A-10 and C-USA reps in the coaches. There is a lot of politics involved.
Yeah. We need to put a giant billboard on the side of I-64 so that we can get some votes.

Something like, "Bring us your HAVOC, we'll take your hats without asking!!!"
I have been following ODU for 40 years; it's hard to believe it's been that long. I don't recall ODU ever being ranked. We have come VERY close SEVERAL times but it seems whenever we got really close we would lose. Of course when you are as old as I am your memory starts to go.
I believe the first good BT team was very close after winning like 14 in a row at one point leading into the CAAT and then dropped one right before Richmond. Could be wrong though.
A couple of Blaine's teams got very close.
I believe that one Odell Hodge-Petey Sessoms teams in the early 90's began the season just outside of the top 25, but got our butts handed to us early in the season by Duke in Alaska. May have been the year that Hodge got hurt.

You don't need to go back that far. The 2005-2006 team was on the cusp as well before losing to Wisconsin in the Paradise Jam and then falling apart after that.

Ah yes. Marriage ruined our season 05-nono
The 2009-2010 & 2010-2011 teams received votes, but I'm pretty sure that's as high as they got.
A) Georgia State is going to be a tough game. They are really good in the backcourt.
B) We got two 25th place votes. John Feinstein (who did the color of the game for tv) and John Werner from the Waco Tribune-Herald gave us votes.

Had to look it up, we got to #34 in the Coaches Poll. I thought we were closer than that.

35 years for me, and while I don't recall being in either the Top 20 (70's and 80's) or the Top 25 polls. However, I know I read in our media guide that we got in the Top 25 once. Just can't remember when. Now I have found a lot of errors in the media guide over the years, but that would be a complete screw-up if it wasn't true.

Edit: OK, I found it. We were ranked #25 in the AP in 1986 with a 15-5 record. This was Gattison's senior year when we were a #8 seed and beat West Virginia in the 1st round of the NCAAT before getting pounded by #1 seed Duke with Johnny Dawkins.
The monarchs were the top receiving votes team (basically 26) under Oliver Purnell after beating UVA. Then they went on to choke the next week. Thats the highest I remember them ever getting. The Taylor teams got close, maybe in the 28-29 range.

+1
And, oh, by the way, for as much as I love getting the press, I don't believe we are the 25th best team in the country.
Weren't we in the top 20 RPI at the end of the '10-'11 season and still unranked and wound up in the 8/9 game against Butler? I am still bitter about that.

Not yet, but I do think this team has to potential to be, especially if Bacote remains hot.

I agree. I love how the team is progressing, but they still have lots of work to do. I say let's enjoy the ride (make it a long one), but let's handle the recent success a little conservatively.

Probably not, but no reason to pee in our Wheaties. Geez.
