Between that game with the shirtless guy, and the MTSU football game, I think ODU is making it's mark on CUSA. But is this the mark we want to leave? 05-nono LOL!!!!!

....can't tell if the tongue is longer....
Congrats to ODU, just keep on winning.

I don't understand some of the fans who think they are God's gift
to humanity.

Anyway, hope to see a multiple bid from C-USA to the big dance.

Go Miners...
ODU is at Charlotte on Sunday, so I for one am a fan of their OOC record. We need a win against an 11-1 team.

Starting the conference 1-0 would be huge against a quality team. Luckily we get a quality team that's only played one road game to date, which is definitely in our favor.

I can't describe that other than envious.....
I made the trip from San Antonio to Houston for the UTSA vs Rice game. I know several local UTSA alumni who are going. I am looking forward to the opening of conference play.

I agree its going to be a challenge for the Monarchs. We only played 4 road games of which 3 are neutral location(paradise jam) so Mason is only our true road game. Charlotte is a really talented team and with this game at Home they may be favored by a thin margin but remember this is a very good Monarchs squad. Go Monarchs!!!

Thx Fist. Hopefully we'll do it.
I saw one of your games against a ranked team, I can't remember who it was but your DO have a good team. I was impressed with your point guard, he was really cool and didn't let the other team faze him as much as they tried. He sure could shoot those free throws.

Will the charlotte game be televised? What time?

Probably the VCU game. And the point guard is Trey Freeman. We are lucky to have him. The game is at 1:00pm EST on Sunday, and will be on ASN.

Donkey Chain, I might have to record it as the playoffs will be around that time.

I'm thinking about heading to Texas for ODU's UTSA-UTEP weekend and want to be sure I can get tickets in El Paso before buying airfare, etc.

I looked and they don't have anything on ticketmaster or stubhub. I am not sure how many people from outside of El Paso purchase tickets to basketball games. Most people get them at the university ticket office. Try calling them at 915-747-6150
The lack of ticketmaster listings led me to post. I found a press release for non-conference single game tickets but nothing for conference games.

(01-02-2015 01:14 AM)Blue_Trombone Wrote: [ -> ]Contact the ODU ticket office or ODAF. There's always a set amount of away tickets that the visiting team must give back to the home team at some pre-determined point. You'd also be able to sit with the modicum of other ODU fans that get to make it.
That was a thought I had. Probably will give them a call next week. More worried about the UTEP game as I can't imagine having an issue at a UTSA weeknight game.

Quickly realized that. If I go, I'll be flying between the two.

Our conference RPI is sitting at 19th, as a conference we can't be happy with sitting behind the likes of Horizon, Ivy, Patriot and CAA. There's little room for improvement this year with only three OOC games left. Look at the link, there is a collation between the conference's RPIs and their OOC strength of schedule. The Top-10 conferences all have OOC SOS of 13th and better. We need to work the game.

One thing to keep in mind about conference RPI is that the fundamental most important factor is win/loss record. Some of these conferences are way below .500 and being propped up by strong schedules. Once they get into conference play their RPI as a league will begin to fall as everyone is playing a sub .500 team. Last year the Sun Belt went from something like 14th from the time the non-conference schedule ended to 20+ once they completed their conference schedule.

We will finish the year either 13th or 14th and will probably be right with or just behind the Ivy at 14th would be my guess.

Still not good enough. I want to be a top 10 league and I think we can but our whole league has pretty much been average at best this year. We can do a lot better.
That ODU/Charlotte game tomorrow should be a great one. Two pretty evenly matched teams, on national TV, looking to start out 1-0 in CUSA. I'm obviously rooting for the Monarchs, but this one could go either way. With only one road game under our belts, I'm a little nervous.

once conference play starts, conference rpis change very little at all. At least they never did when we were in the a10, but I only paid attention to the top 10 conferences then. Maybe things are different in dog **** conferences.

That's simply not true. They can change drastically. I just referenced what happened last year with the Sun Belt.

You almost have to look at conference RPI different than how you view individual team RPI's, because conference RPI almost always follows win percentage. If you go back and look at previous years you will note there is a highly significant correlation between conference rankings and the conference's win percentage. So, knowing that we can look at several conferences currently ahead of us such as the Big West, Colonial, Horizon, and Patriot Leagues who I can almost guarantee you will fall behind us once they get into conference play. The reason is fairly simple. Even though those conferences are ahead of us now once they start playing conference games against each other the other aspect of the RPI begins to kick in (opponents and opponents/opponents). So, take the Horizon for example. Only three teams in that league have a winning record, so two out of every three games played in conference is going to be a double ding on their RPI as a league. Playing sub .500 teams slowly erodes away your RPI value.

Your RPI in the A10 probably didn't change much, because once you got into the top 7/8 conferences every one of those leagues is playing .500 plus teams in conference, so there isn't as much opportunity to fall.

But I can guarantee you that we will be right around 13 or 14 when the season ends. I can also project that because of the MAC's strong showing in OOC (even though they haven't really played anything that resembles a daunting schedule) they are going to climb and finish in the top 10 maybe even top eight. Just go look at overall conference win percentages and give you a fairly decent indication of where each conference will rank at the end of the year. There is nothing complicated about the RPI formula and once you see how it works then you can pretty easily project how things are going to turn out.
BTW, I believe we were 17th or 18th at this point last year and finished 13th.

Whether you want to hear it or not this is why scheduling is problematic and the greatest barrier to our league moving higher in RPI. If you're in the A10 there is a lot more .500 and above teams within a stones throw to schedule. And i don't know a lot of us that have the budgets to schedule seven or more games all over the country. ODU is really the only school (maybe Marshall) geographically suited to being able to schedule in a way that maximizes RPI. The rest of us are just trying to fill out schedules as best we can.
