OK, we have exhausted the new Head Coach thread, let's give Coach Withers some suggestions on his staff ...

I vote to keep O'Cain as the Offensive Coordinator. As the Defensive Coordinator, how about a guy that is already on the payroll, but not currently assigned any duties ... I know it's ridiculous, but Mickey could let someone else take the heat while still being involved. I know ... that ship as sailed, yadda, yadda, yadda

But, how about some other suggestions?
Jeff Hanson hopefully.

O'Cain doesn't seem to fit the "slinging" mentality, but I thought he did pretty well this year.

For DC, perhaps this guy?

Another App State guy ... Wow, will we need to change our colors to black and gold?
Hansen would be great bang for the buck.
He needs to bring recruiters first so they can get to work immediately. If he decides to make one of the O or D coordinators the recruiting coordinator as well, then they better have ties to Virginia recruiting and the Mid-Atlantic initially.
I'd be shocked if he keeps a JMU guy in a coordinator position. He needs to get guys who can run his system.
I would like to start fresh, but I do think keeping Hanson would be a great keep.
I'm kind of iffy on O'Cain, but if he kept him I wouldn't be angry about it.

With you on that. I would not want that to happen.
I said it in another thread and maybe it's short sighted, but do we really want to give Birdsong his 3rd OC in 3 years? That's tough on him. It takes a while to learn an offense and get comfortable in it. I thought O'Cain was decent last year and no matter what Mickey says, you know he had the shackles on him in some situations. For example, after a couple of picks against Albany, he instructed O'Cain not to throw the ball the rest of the game. He said it directly in his press conference. "I told Mike not to throw the ball anymore. I said Mike, if we just run every play we'll win the game". He was right in that situation but you get the point. And, we were pretty up tempo. Not sure how much faster you can go.
Hansen, for his role, is the most respected by players and recruits.

He doesn't have an offensive system.
He may have someone else's system
From what I've heard, the players really like O'Cain. Players don't usually like a guy because he's their buddy but rather because they realize he knows his stuff and they believe in him. So, I'd be fine with keeping him around but that's Withers' job. If he strongly has a guy in mind who wants the job, that's up to him. I don't care who you put in that booth though, you need better OL play or it's a moot discussion.
Does anyone know Withers' twitter account?

Grateful for the opportunities The Ohio State University has provided me. Excited to lead James Madison in a successful future. Go Dukes!

He doesn't have an offensive system.

He said he had a system in his interviews. Spread offense with power running game, up tempo.

Pretty much everyone agrees on Hansen. Rare to get unanimity on here.

3 offensive coaches are gone. Edmonds & Newsome are gone. Clayton will definitely be gone I think. Am I missing any other departures already announced?

Left? on offense:
-OCain
-Chambers

Left? on defense:
-Gillenwater
-Hanson
-White
-Bradshaw
-Lezotte

I wish Withers and Edmonds had a chance to speak before he left but I understand he did what he had to do. Edmonds bled JMU football and now he's sleeping with the enemy. I still wish him success but that sucks.

Withers said he would "love to talk to anybody" on the current staff that "has an interest" in staying.
Yeah, that's a politically correct thing to say.
