Agreed. A JMU grad that recently left or was asked to leave ODU.

For those that don't know, he was the DB coach for ODU the last three seasons.

One of my good friends , I hope he lands here. He works extremely hard at breaking down plays and formations , along with recruiting. And his family has a footprint in 757 area.

Agree, please say "no" to anyone associated with ODU's defense. I don't care if the guy is from JMU.

I'm not saying he is coming. He is a JMU alum who is well thought of, and available.

Same reason our we hired a HC associated with OSU's defense , he can recruit and is knowledgable. He actually started off with Greg Schiano at Rutgers until he left for NFL.

Yes, but he and Withers don't have a connection and it's looks like all his hires he has a relationship with in some way. But you never know who knows each other by way of coaching or the coaching convention.

Out of curiosity, you're not sold on the Withers hire because of how the defense that he coached at Ohio State performed. I know you said you're friends with Marc, so this may be a bit different, but do you have the same reservations about bringing in Marc since ODU's defense has been laughably bad?

ODU is in a transition year , it doesn't compare to coaching the safeties at already established OSU. Their FBS losses were bad , but their FCS records were good. And there is a reason why the Defensive coordinator wasn't fired but everyone else was let go. I'm sold on Withers as a recruiter and I stated that. But based on his track record and stats I don't really see him changing the landscape of our defense for the better. Mind you I am not looking at the politics of a head coaching hire.

Give me tOSU's defense over ODU's any day. Bacote would be a terrible hire.

This was my thinking as well. A little confused on this one unless we're bringing him in for something specialized like recruiting a particular region. We certainly should not be looking to hire ODU defensive coaches though, as that would be like going backwards as a program.

He went to Hampton high and his father was a high school coach in the 757 area. And I'm not going to clown ODU defense cause JMU as yet to beat them in a football game. And I am not going to ridicule Withers in a transition year to FBS if teams put up numbers against JMU.

You can't compare OSU and ODU , and you surely can't compare a 20 years resume to a four year resume. And ODU is in a transition year and did ok against FCS competition. And your also comparing an assistant to a head Coach lol.
Withers has a 20 year resume to look at and I didn't even look at his first five years.

You can't much better than Marc Bacote if you want a recruiting tie-in to the 757. The whole family is very well known and liked thru the area. He's uncle to ODU's leading scorer Aaron Bacote. Talking to a former player, he said he was thought of as a good coach and very well like by players. He also has experience at the BCS level.

So we thought Kermit Buggs was coming to JMU from U CONN and he ends up with ODU. I assume he received a higher paying offer. While Bacote doesn't have the same years of experience, his JMU connection may be upside for recruiting passion.

In my mind, Withers has to get the Jimmies and Joes before worrying about the X's and O's.
It is getting really late too. Ignoring Hampton Roads recruiting would be a huge mistake.
