I guess that makes it 3 openings in the CAA. Is Noland working behind the scenes on selling us into one of those spots?
Budget, footprint, facilities and he's got to build ETSU's reputation as an institution that can build facilities on time and fulfill promises. It's a tough sell.
I've seen several sportswriters tweet that the CAA has to add Davidson and C of C if they want to have any chance of being anything other than a one bid league after VCU and ODU leave. I don't think ETSU has any chance of getting in the CAA, but if two non-football schools leave the SoCon that could open things up for a move there. It also makes the addition of football easier if you're already in a conference that has it. That would probably be a best case scenario for ETSU.
Davidson and Charleston make sense. The Southern Conference is in a river ofs#it. App/Ga. Southern flirting with MAC/Sun Belt, Davidson/CofC could easily wind up in the CAA. That's the two best football and two best basketball programs gone. It gives Chattanooga an excuse to shop around again, potentially flirt with the OVC, it gives The Citadel a HUGE EXCUSE to jump to the Big South (VMI, Charleston Southern). It very well could open up the door for ETSU to go back there. It's like the draft. Just gotta wait til the 7th round.
Charlotte is also an example of a school that kicked out of a conference over football and then got back into that same conference with the addition of football. ETSU might be fortunate enough to get back into the SoCon without football in the short term and add it after they get in.

This is probably our brightest hope right now. Get back into the Southern with the promise of adding back football.
That's not alot of hope when you think about going to a conference that will lose its' top two performers in football and top two in basketball.

Things are getting interesting now. Who would the SoCon take? ETSU and maybe Mercer? Could the ASUN be the league that bites the dust after all the movement is over.

The ASUN just lost it's top basketball performer though. Is their any chance that App and GSU stay in I-AA?

Sadly, I kind of agree. The Socon without Davidson, C of C, App and GSU isn't very attractive. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Chattanooga bolt for the OVC if all 4 of these schools leave the Socon. It would be ETSU's luck that we get an invite to the Socon after all the good schools leave.

Not too sure about GSU, but APP is gone to CUSA, MAC or Sunbelt. They are just waiting for the best offer it seems.
I feel a lot more confident with Noland at the helm. If all of this was going down and Stanton was still in office, I would guarantee we would be in the ASUN until it's last breath.

This is about to be a mad scramble involving 28 teams trying to get conferences to 12. Keep in mind too that North Alabama, UWF, and Bellarmine are all looking to move up, too. I don't think the A-Sun dies, but I do think the teams in the A-Sun, ETSU, Upstate, Mercer, Kennesaw and Lipscomb will all relocate in this. It's too easy to bring to bring ETSU, Mercer and Coastal Carolina to the Southern, and even though it's not their typical practice, take North Alabama because they have football. It replaces two non football and two football schools. The Big South jumps to 12 after Liberty goes with Kennesaw (yes I know the SoCon pinky swore but that was with Danny Morrison, the new commish is a boob) and the 12th for hoops with Upstate. The A-Sun, left with the Florida schools, Lipscomb, and NKU (six total) could go either way. If the OVC were to look to strengthen by numbers, they could easily jump on NKU/Lipscomb. It doesn't screw with football and adds more for basketball.
Hell, it's a mess. And we're the White Buffalo
Slappy, got any inside info on this?? Will ETSU be left out in the dust or stuck in a Socon without our main rivals?
Wow with all of these shake-ups the Big South COULD wind up better for us than the SoCon. Who would have thought that even a year ago?

Big SoCon meetings at the end of the month. Maybe we'll head there sooner than later?
I have to think the CAA looks a lot less attractive now though, for schools like Davidson and Charleston. What if they SoCon goes on the offensive and adds ETSU and UNCW from the CAA?
