after under 4min they make 2 free throws. evans inbounds to clark, both evans and broome want to run down court and let clark bring it up. Mick gets paid millions to notice this, I wouldve called another TO and took both out game to get their freaking minds right for a possession

I wasn't going to post on this thread any more, but I disagree. I don't think Mick is capable of making "deep runs" in the NCAA Tournament. Sorry, I just don't think he is. One popular definition of "insanity" is to keep doing things over and over, the same way, but expecting different results.
Mick consistently puts together teams, and manages them, that cannot get past the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament. That's who he is as a coach. Expecting different results is not reasonable.

This was the only team Mick has ever put together that was objectively a top 16 team (and by most metrics a top 5-10 team). Deep runs can happen from lower seeds on lesser teams, but this is the kind of team you need to be a real threat. He's 0-1 with this caliber team. The key is having this caliber team more often.

The other S16 team was very nice, too, but that was six years ago.

I'd agree with this. But I think he's going to have a difficult time assembling this type of talent on his roster consistently. We have to be more aggressive on the transfer market IMO because that is the only way UC will be able to add legit Top 100 type talents to the roster.

Even that team was a 6 seed that finished 31 in kenpom. That team made great strides and had an incredibly impressive finish to the season, but it wasn't a legitimate top 5-10 team. If you want to be a consistent title contender you need more regular top 5-10 teams. We had that this year... the test for Mick in my mind is having that more often. If he does I'm confident we'll have some deeper runs, if not we may spring an upset or two now and then in the tournament, but won't really be contenders. I'd much rather be this year's UC team than last year's Xavier team that went to the elite 8. The key is we need to be that team more often...eventually we'll break through.

#17 in Sagarin sounds much better.

What gives anyone any confidence Mick will be able to put together another team this talented and experienced?

Mick hasnt gotten a commitment from a single big time player since the week Cumberland and Washington both committed. That was July of 2015.

The sad thing is apparently he had an opportunity to secure a commitment from Wendell Mitchell, but he wasn't willing to tell him what kind of playing time he would be getting. Mitchell is supposedly the best JUCO in the country and a monster PG. I just dont think he is willing to go the extra mile to get these type of players we need.

i'm somewhat in the middle between Mark and Jerry. i think he's a solid, above average coach. i think Mick can recruit enough talent to make a run. i think Mick and his staff are good at game prep. i don't think Mick and his staff are good at in-game adjustments. i don't think he is a good enough coach to be the difference in making a run. The next final four Cincy makes will largely be on the shoulders of the players.
As an aside, another poster mentioned something about his sideline demeanor and i 100% agree. There was one particular cut away that showed Mick screaming in the general direction of KW, who had been subbed out. From what i recall, KW had been subbed out for several possessions and yet Mick decided to yell, at the very least, in his general direction. For what purpose i don't know but i can't imagine a millennial being all that enamored with those optics.

Nothing gives me confidence that Mick will ever put together a more talented team than we had this year. A favorable draw in our own time zone and having seeds 1, 3, and 4 all lose before us is also not likely to happen again IMO. This was our chance and it was blown in a truly historic manner: the biggest blown second half lead in NCAA tournament history.

I'll bite. My only sliver of confidence is that Mick has continually put better teams on the court year after year, on average, since taking over the program.
With that said, I AM worried about next year if Evans declares.

Those Nevada guards embarrassed us the last 10 minutes. Embarrassed us. NEVADA. Our best team in years. All I can do is laugh or else I'd cry
