Aren't expectations usually spelled out? If not, shouldn't they be? How can you hold an employee accountable for not reaching goals if you do not establish goals?

because I haven't seen a coaching contract that lays out specific goals. I've seen them lay out specifics for incentive compensation, but not for firing.

In all fairness, Memphis is in NYC for a game tomorrow. Unless the school had a charter for the staff, that would be a tough task.

I disagree. Given that the game WAS IN MEMPHIS, there is NO excuse for not even a single Memphis rep to be present.

I get it, but Memphis was already in NYC for the game vs. UL.

There are no flights out of MEM to the NYC area last night, so someone would have had to fly out today.

Most of those kids on that team are 2019 and 2020, so missing one game in 2017 hopefully isn't the dagger or the one visit that would have put them over the top.

I'm mean, the game is at noon tomorrow. You think flying up less than 24 hours before a big game (risking travel issues) is wise? I'm sure there are promotional obligations for the "Gotham Classic" and the team probably needs a walkthrough and shootaround at MSG. Hard to fit ALL that in if you're flying up the day before.

I kill Tubby on a lot of stuff, put this one is low on the totem pole.

Now leaving early during a Tyler Harris game, that's a different story.

Can see all the recruits Tubby has whiffed on.

Just like in dating, you must get turned down before you can accept "No" as an answer. Ole Tubbs is too lazy to form a relationship with HS players and gauge their interest level. It's ok to fail. But at least TRY. That's just an effort thing. The whole thought that Tubby isn't willing to play dirty/break rules/cater to kids is a cop out. There is NO reason to ignore the local talent. Drive down the street and watch them play. Talk to parents after the game. It's simple. It really is.

On a side note, most of us learned stuff like this in the dating world. Ole Tubby prob didn't date much.

So, you send somebody to the game in a Memphis shirt and hold up a sign that says Tubby.

During the game, one of the commentators said about Penny:

"He's a very good practice coach. He pays close attention to detail. He doesn't allow this team to get complacent."

Take it FWIW.

Only coaches are allowed to recruit. And they had all better be in NYC getting ready for a national game we have tomorrow morning.

Some of you surprise me with your lack of understanding of a sport that you follow.

You know that is not true as you spend enough time here...

The Memphis players beat east by about the same Margin as when East played last years players.

I cannot find a story on it after a cursory internet search. Maybe you will have better luck. Meanwhile, I will assume you are correct. It is hard to believe that a group of high school kids could beat D-1 men even in a pick up game.

According to Jason Smith, some UM guys and some East guys played pickup games the past 2 summers. UM won both by double digits - but not a blowout either time. I believe that was before Wiseman got to East and before some of our jucos got to campus.

We don't have a chance at any of the players anyway. It would have been a waste of time.

But a least fool us by trying.

Finally some reason. Staff has a bigger responsibility in NYC today and tomorrow. Just because the game was on tv, doesn't really make it more important than any of the other 25 opportunities they will have to see East this year. Now, if they're blowing off all the East games when they are in town - that would be a story.

There is plenty to beat Tubby up about. We don't have to exaggerate things to do so.

From what I remember, the game wasn't UM vs East straight up but a mixture of both in a pick up game.

Not a mixture - at least according to Jason. But 3 UM guys with 2 others and 3 East guys with 2 others.
