My brother is in the band, and from what I have been told, in the spirit of equality, they are treating the UofM band and cheerleaders as they would for any bowl game. So they are putting the band up in the Sheraton downtown, and giving them their allotted stipend money.
The basketball game on the 28th will be quite a sight, as the entire marching band will be marching from the hotel to the forum and will be playing at the game. So if you're planning on going to a game...that might be one that would be pretty fun.
Now, I don't know if any of this will change, but that's what I've been told thus far.
Should be no problem finding seats for them to sit....in the lower bowl.

If Memphis wants to go to that next level in football it’s has to take the marching band with them to that level. #CLIMB. We can do this.
That includes growing the size of the band. We have several high schools in the area with larger numbers than our band.

That's VERY cool. I joke around about the band being mistreated, and sometimes they are, but this is very nice of the admin. and they deserve kudos.
Well, it's one of those things that it's like...the band is really a big part of the athletic events. Hell, if it wasn't for the band right now, there would be no one cheering in the stands half the time.
But when it comes to saving money and cutting corners...the band is the first corner cut most of the time. Trust me. After four years in the MSS and four years of my brother being there, I've seen my fair share of ups and downs.
But they are getting to stay in a nice hotel this time around. So, you're right. Admin does deserve Kudos for that.

I always thought why don't we have a Liberty Bowl tournament every year we can host for the fans of both teams and the general public coinciding with the bowl week festivities?

Some of the local high schools are better recruiters too.

Tournament of what? Like a Band competition? Because we have that already. It's called Bandmasters, but it happens before high school football season is over.

Basketball, surely.
Obviously they wouldn't match the bowl game but by coincidence, but let Memphis host a tournament with Big XII and SEC programs, plus some minnows.

Sorry, I didn't think in that vein because it would be difficult to schedule basketball teams that quickly. Memphis nor ISU knew we were going to be the participating teams until well after BB schedules for the season had been set.

yeah no way to do that. It could work as a holiday tournament though. Invitations set up months in advance with us hosting around the Grizzlies home dates. We know the Liberty bowl period the last week of the year. It would be a huge endeavor to be sure, but other cities do it.

It's the Liberty Bowl.
We should have flag corps contests for flag waivers.
A National Anthem singing contest (winner on TV).
A military color guard competition (winner at game)
An Apple pie cookoff.
A hot dog festival.
A President impersonators contest.
A rifle team tournament.
A collegiate debate tournament on Liberty subjects.
I could go on and on.

Best way would be to schedule Memphis, another AAC team, and then a team from the 2 conferences under the current year's contract for the football game. This year it would be B12 and SEC. You could tie in marketing, get a tv contract, sell a few more football tickets, and get an upgrade to the OOC. Some years, you might get lucky and have one of the schools playing in the bowl game.
Would be cool to have a round robin with Memphis, Houston, K-State, Auburn for example. 2 games over 2-3 days during bowl week. Avoid conference games or any rematches.
