That gap with Miami has just about closed to nothing.

Only one win quite possible as Miami and Tulane may not give us games two years in a row. I expect OU to beat us.
Name the wins not oh it will be better.

Miami, am, Ohio, ecu, Tulane, navy, UConn. We get seven next year with talent and experience upgrade. Haden plays better, the runningbacks go crazy, the defense returns everyone except minor and plays stout. And remember, I am one of the few that predicted a losing record this year.

Btw, all you doom and gloomers should bet against UC this week. We are a 5 and half point favorite.

RE: Will 2018 be better?
I'm hoping for a 'tough 5-7' type squad.
I remember in 1995-ish UC was 6-5 but that included beating a ranked Va Tech at Va Tech, a heartbreaking last second loss at home to a ranked Kstate etc. We were only 6-5 but they were a tough 6-5.
I'm hoping for this....but it will be 5-7 best case.

Maybe you did it somewhere, but it wasn't in the week 1 poll I did here. Just to refresh some memories: We had 48 predictions and NOBODY picked us worse than 6-6.
As far as next year, yeah I think it will be better but I'm not that confident of it right now and also lacking confidence that it will involve great improvement. During the offseason I thought we could start putting it together this year which we obviously haven't. Then I was fooled into thinking we were at least seeing improvement during the season, but that looks more like the ordinary ups and (mostly in this case) downs every team faces.. So I'm now pretty much in "prove it" mode...

From predictions made on 7-27. 5-7 with wins in 3 of last four. Some others also predicted the same.

Why do I keep seeing this word!?!?
:lmfao:
But anyway, I expect 5 or 6 wins next year, just from superior talent. If CLF has a productive off-season by reviewing and learning from his performance, I could see us getting to 6 or 7 wins.

Correct I also was guilty of thinking we had hired a competent coach. Having seen almost a year of his work, I have seen no improvement at all. Total lack of discipline, no in game meaningful adjustments.

RE: Will 2018 be better?
I'm more interested in what acronym or slogan "Coach" will have on his back next season...
As to "improved" talent, unless (a) any of the current RS's that were hastily brought in last February are "lightning in a bottle" or (b) Fickell plans on running this entire recruiting class onto the field next year with no RS players going forward, then the "improved talent" argument is at least TWO years away... And the idea of running a whole crop of true Freshmen out onto the field strikes me as slightly worse than the strategy of recruiting 2/3 of a roster from the JC ranks with having a "ready for the field" team next year. (See "Ron Prince" at Kansas State.)
I admit, I was wildly optimistic about this season going in. I truly believed that the previous staff recruited talent but did not care...or know how...to develop it and that THIS STAFF would. I see no reason to think that they can or will. Meaning that we're stuck with the non-talent recruited by the last staff with no real hopes for developing it.
Next season should be in the same neighborhood as this season...+- 1 win.

The answer is a larger stadium with more luxury boxes.

Yes, it usually takes until the second year to establish culture. Problem is this staff has no history of a winning culture. They will continue to flush out the less talented to players for better players. We are still looking at three to five year rebuild but 6-6 is reasonable next season if the WR and DB play show any improvement.

I'm still under the impression most people here don't know what a "in game adjustment" is, and they just echo the circlejerk of the board. According to Bearcat Banter the problem with out team lies completely in coaching and we hired a dud.

RE: Will 2018 be better?
It's just 2010 silly angstiness again. Like I said in the other thread, same people that demanded Jones be fired in year one and left their seats after a 4-8 season were back in 2012 complaining that we were going to lose our coach again.
I'm beginning to think this interwebs thingy was a bad idea.
