Yep I agree.
Yea, that's what Pitino and Chuck Person thought too.
We can debate that issue. IMO, it is Tubby's job. He should not solicit help from media or other sources who could end up burning you down the road. It's on Tubby alone if he doesn't get it done. It should not be on Tubby and GP. And the media needs to report news more and manufacture news less. But that's just my opinion.

President Trump has the same issue with the media, just on a lot bigger stage.

It’s high on this board, no one else gives a ?.
I really don’t think it’s very high here either. I’m talking regular listeners, not just tuning in when some drama is upon us.
Lots of out of town folks on the board too, who aren't going to go out of there way to try to listen to Memphis talk radio drivel. I suppose I could find it online if I really wanted to, but I really don't. In fact, if it were readily available, I'd consciously avoid it.

I never said Tubby should go get Nike to funnel money to get any players or anything else of that nature
It would behoove him to have good media relations especially with the guys who are connected to the college basketball community and who can influence people's perception of a program
And the whole media/news issue - yes, fair point but unfortunately not the circumstances we live in with the proliferation of social media/ads/views per page and especially not with how much information overload the young recruits see on Twitter these days. Would be in Tubby's best interest to work with those who create narratives to have a positive one around his program

I agree. The trick is to find common ground with people--in this case both the media and recruits.
With recruits, you don't have to make promises about their NBA chances, but you can't smash their NBA dreams. Every BB kid has dreams of going further.
If a skilled player commits to Memphis and works hard...why would Illinois, Iowa State or Las Vegas get them there any faster than Memphis? Isn't that who we are competing with now?
As for the media, they are fun, lively folks and some can be your friends. They have a job too. Cut them off, and you're toast these days. It's a symbiotic relationship.

Disagree Snow and Cash. Never in sports history has the print and radio media been less important than they are now.
The last round of ESPN layoffs were by a large majority sports writers. People just don't read as much anymore, they watch video highlights. Over 130 daily newspapers have shut down, and those that remain almost all have lower circulations and fewer local columnists.
Pods are eating into radio. Sports pods like Bill Simmons and Pardon My Take get over 1 million downloads per week.
And most importantly, social media is ubiquitous now. The CA doesn't break Tiger hoops commitments now, Joe Esposito tweets "BOOM". I follow the Grizz closely, and can't remember the last time I read Ron Tillery. The Grizz blogs have much better and more interesting content than Tillery.
Tubby has decided, correctly IMO, that these radio guys just aren't that important for what he is doing. Tubby will do their radio programs a few times a year, which is fine.

Relationships are one thing. Offering to help a coach recruit is another. You originally were proposing to take a media member up on help with recruiting. Avoid it. If the media has to be THAT involved in order to have a "good relationship", then we should want no part of it.

Right on. This board doesn't reflect reality. People aren't listening to local sports radio. Dinosaur...

Do you really think Memphis media is unpleasant or unfriendly?
Yes. They wanted Steve Forbes to be the coach, because he's friends with certain members of the media.
They went in on Tubby from day 1. It's obvious to anyone paying attention.
Hmm, alot pf us around here wanted Forbes to be the coach here if you remember

The poster is correct though. They started after Tubby on day one and some posters around here followed suit. IF Tubby is successful, a lot of people are going to look stupid. But some of us won’t, some of us kept saying let’s wait and see before we run him out on a rail. Let’s let it play out. Let them play the games. Let the results on the floor happen first. On and on. I know of two posters that said they would admit to being wrong, if Tubby is successful. The rest have to this point refused to do so.

Absolutely. I sure did. I said Pearl too but when that wasn't gonna happen, Forbes was my preferred choice. He would be right now too.
But it's Tubby. The proven, class, future HOFer. I think the guy is a helluva coach.

Say it ain't so, 450. Pearl? Never. Under any circumstances. Might be the only coach I like less than Hugh Freeze. Don't like liars and phonies, Pearl is both.
