Do you really think Memphis media is unpleasant or unfriendly?

My point is Tubby should work with media members he finds unpleasant and unfriendly.

Why?

It is in his job. According to 4/16/16 CA article, Tubby was paid $1.1 million dollars his first year for “public relations, public service and public speaking responsibilities.” I could not find a copy of the contact, but I doubt there is a PR duty exception for dealing with unpleasant and unfriendly media members.

Furthermore, there is the possibility that Tubby can either reverse or moderate hostile press by simply talking with the “offender”. Finally, personal feelings should not supersede the dissemination of information helpful to the advancement of the program(eg, promoting Memphis Madness).

Tubby obviously promoted Madness today, and all this week, so what it the issue?

Doesn't do much good to promote Memphis Madness in July.

And if he doesn't want to talk to someone, he doesn't have to.

Agree, he did his job and did not let distaste (if present) deter him.

The issue under discussion - as I understand it - is not that Tubby did not discharge his duty in this instance, but rather if he should be compiled to do it (in theory) with a “hostile” media member.

Welp, are there any non hostile ones, I mean by Tubby's standards ? lol

Media, in general, is always digging for sensational stuff to drive ratings.

Not many people listen to local talk radio. Why go on the air with people that have nothing but bad things about him or the program? He does a fair amount of public relations, but not a lot of local media.

I don’t blame him. He’s not going to sell a lot of tickets by going on 92.9. Winning sells tickets. We’ll see if he can do that.

Local talk radio is a waste of time.

What is the percentage of Tiger fans who listen to some local radio talk about Tiger athletics? I thought it was pretty high.

Jason and John have been fair to Tubby imo. Calkins and Parrish not so much.

I heard Jason and John talking when I was in Memphis recently. They seemed ok to me too. They mostly skipped over Basketball---and talked about FB.

OK.

Just my opinion, I don't think Tubby has distaste for Jason & John - I don't think Tubby cares about them at all. Josh had rabbit ears and reacted to everything that was said about him. Tubby is the opposite.

I only listen to J & J when I eat hot wings at the WG. They are certainly part of the problem.

I wouldn't go on that show if I was Tubby after a couple of the things they have said.

I really don’t think it’s very high here either. I’m talking regular listeners, not just tuning in when some drama is upon us.

Can we stop the b#$%in and complaining and get a Memphis Madness official thread up. Will be good for us folk that will spend the $5 to be in attendance give updates to those that only want to rely on information supplied by GP and the other local talk radio trolls.

I caught part of it. Martin was quiet. Jason did fine. He did admit that they had been hard on him. Tubby laughed about it and said he's used to it. He said he's been told by member of media that they can help him recruit (sounds like GP). He said he told them, no it's not your job to do that. You do the reporting and let us do the recruiting. If he told GP that, then it certainly makes sense why GP has such disdain for him. How dare Tubby tell GP to stay out of it.

True '87. I thought the same thing, had to be GP. What other local member media would be arrogant enough to tell Tubby Smith that? Like any local recruit gives a flip where GP thinks he should play ball.

If so, GP hasn't been telling the whole truth when he has criticized Tubby for his recruiting efforts. GP just said he offered all the contact information for the local AAU guys, and Tubby and staff didn't follow up. In reality, they told GP to take a hike.
