Your radio set should be dialed to amplitude modulation 68 or frequency modulation 92.9. This could be the first time many Memphis fans will hear the voice of Tubby Smith as the Memphis coach. A story to hand down to the grandchildren.

If we can believe what was posted here and other places, Tubby is paid to do PR. Surely he gets to choose what he does. I have no link to verify this, though.

But if he has to do a show on 92.9, I'd take J&J before either Calkins or GP - fo sho. Does Hasseltine still have the afternoon slot? He's probably been the least biased.

I agree with you Bench.
Kill them with kindness would be my advice. In the big scheme of things, they don't matter. Josh kissed all of their butts for years, yet when it was obvious he wasn't up to the job, all the butt kissing didn't help.
Btw, anyone want to start a poll of which of the usual suspects will be criticizing something Tubby said by about 12:40?

Yes. They wanted Steve Forbes to be the coach, because he's friends with certain members of the media.
They went in on Tubby from day 1. It's obvious to anyone paying attention.

Tubby won't play their game. You come on their shows all the time, and they will say nice things about you. Verno was honest and called out other media who did this with Josh.
It's why I don't give a flip about PR. Could care less if Tubby ever did the shows. Winning, and secondarily not getting the program in trouble, is all that matters.

The school does a lot of PR. Ads and billboards. Joe and Dr. Rudd use social media. Tubby does pressers.
My point is specifically the radio shows. It's a quid pro quo. Especially a couple of the shows, it's do our shows and we'll be nice. Ignore us and we'll criticize. They all but admit it. Tubby is right to give them the Heisman. Do a couple of appearances a year, say nothing of note, otherwise ignore them.

Just as some here seem to think the Memphis media is being petty, so is Tubby. Both sides have a job to do. Part of Tubby's is to do PR. PR is needed to gain excitement and sell tickets to bring money to the program that is in turn used for facilities, recruiting, etc. It's simple really. MOST here seem to get that.Tubby has been a coach a looooong time and most of his jobs have required PR work. Hasn't learned the art yet. He is very pleasant and polite in front of camera. The times are few and far between. The interviews he does are not very exciting. All coach speak. You can do that if you're Bill Billichick and dominate on the field/court. Clearly Tubby doesn't like doing it. Not a real exciting man in general. He is the same guy he was when we hired him. Am I allowed to still be confused by the hire? I hear that makes me a Miserable.....

He should work with anyone he wants to. If he doesn't want to talk to an individual or group of individuals he doesn't have to.
