Our level of suspensions and dismissals in 4 years is NOT normal no matter how much you try to convince us it is.
Jones has dismissed more players in 4 years than Blaine did in over a decade.
Losing guys to transfers is one thing, having issues that continually force dismissals is not normal at all.
Who would want to play for Jones? Other than a mid level player not getting attention from bigger schools. Jones can't recruit! He doesn't have the personality nor offer the style of play that attracts the caliber of players we need to move forward. When I watch Jones on the sideline during the game, he reminds me of Ed Sullivan (arms crossed saying nothing other than a cough once in a while). He is just plain boring!! and it's reflected in his style of play and effort being put forth by his players. He will never recruit top quality players and he has had long enough time to do so. His ship is sinking and he needs to go down with it!
You do realize that Jones just landed a recruiting class with ALL 3-star recruits, right? And, as far as I'm aware, that's a feat no coach has ever accomplished in the modern era.

Welcome to the boards. However, your assessment of Jones on the court is completely wrong. He doesn't just stand there. He is constantly turning to tell his players a lesson learned during a bad situation, or he is calling a play, or calling out a player, etc. I don't think I've seen him sit still for more than a minute at a time, or stay quiet.
And the idea that he can't recruit is just fallacy as well. We have two 3 star shooters coming in (shooters being our biggest need). And what do you mean how long will they stay? The ones who are transferring are the ones who weren't getting playing time especially with the new class coming in.
I'm holding off my judgement for this class until we see who the big man is, since that is our last need that we have.

And, besides that, your post (like pretty much every other one you've wasted our time with, just shows why no one on this board takes you seriously.

This. Over 700 players transfer every year now. With about 350 teams, it works out to, basically, two players on every team, every year, now transfer.
Well where have our 2 inbound transfers been each year? I have been an ODU fan since Mark West was manning the paint and I can't remember a time when ODU was so depleted size wise. If we don't get a couple servicable big guys who can contribute we won't be dancing anytime soon IMO.

Coming in at 6'-9" with college playing experience, we all thought that Kah was going to be part of that solution this past season.

Very true. Stith and porter are both very undersized for their positions.
Denzel was undersized but long and we just lost him as well.
We have no interior size, strength or depth. But the same old delusional odu fans continually defend the job JJ has done when it's painfully obvious he can't recruit any bigs.
Take away the stith's coming in to play for their dad and things would be really dire.
Anyone who thinks this program is heading in a positive direction is delusional. We showed significant regression in year 4 and have become smaller and weaker on the inside and are counting on TRUE freshmen to get us to the NCAA tourney next year??
Laughable.

Porter is undersized for a mid-major? I must be missing something.

Stith, Stith, Porter, Pinckney, Arledge were all transfers.
How are we depleted with big men? Porter, Stith, Carver, Kah. Itnwould be nuce to add to that, but I would hardly call it depleted. A lot of the teams we play in conference dont have anywhere near the size/length/wingspan of Porter and Stith. If anything teams are going to try to expose our size if we play Porter and Stith together by putting out a shooter at the 4.

I'll let the other guy defend his comments about being depleted with big men, but have to say that Carver plays more like a small forward than he does as a strong inside presence, and Kah barely saw the court enough to be considered in the conversation. I really do hope that he sees a lot more action next season, but who here can say for sure that he will.
Considering the players that ODU played, ODU really wasn't such a big team. We were probably slightly bigger than the prior season, but not too much. Most of the time, the biggest player we had on the floor was 6'-7" (unless Porter was in), and our guards that played the most were in the 6'-1 to 6'-2 range (Caver & Baker). Those teams in C-USA that we were bigger than, we generally defeated. Teams that were as big or bigger than ODU generally presented them the most problems. On the bigger stage when playing teams out of conference, that is where ODU really needs to get bigger in order to have a better chance of success.
As far as Porter and Brandon guarding a shooting 4 away from the basket...it is more about skill sets than size when talking about guys being able to do that. We have had many players the same size (6'-7 and taller) in the past that played the 4 & 5 positions who were much better at guarding players out to the 3 point arc while playing man-to-man. Valdas, Dahi, and Laughton are among those types of players that although of similar size, would not be exposed by an opposing 4 that could shoot from outside. Brandon at 6'-7" has not demonstrated much of that ability thus far in his career. I don't mean that as a knock on him. He is who he is unless he can somehow develop that skill.
If you are talking about the other team playing a 4 guard line-up with just 1 big man then that is a whole different situation.

RE: Haynes and Fields leaving ODU
FWIW, Ive heard Stiths wingspan is close to 7 foot; which means a heck of a lot more than height. We played well vs some of the taller teams like Louisville. Out starters next year could end up 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-10. All seems to have decent wing spans. To compare, MTSU started 6-1, 6-2, 6-6, 6-7, 6-8. They had 2, 6-2 guys and a 6-10 guy off the bench.
For whatever problems we may have next year, size or number of big men isnt one. And Carver doesnt guard wing players.
What teams did we play last year that beat us up inside with their size?

Comparing centers to CUSA? Giles you are thinking too small. CUSA is below us. We need to be comparing ourselves to the Final 4 teams since that's where this program deserves and aspires to be.
