You spelled Heels incorrectly.

RE: Keatts replacement
My first take on Kenny Johnson a week or so ago was "no thanks". If it is him then he brings the regional high school connections that Keatts also had. He also has CAA experience and 3 full years experience under Pitino.

Reading his wikipedia page I found the following interesting:

"Prior to becoming a college assistant, Johnson was very active in the Maryland high school coaching circuit. He held assistant positions at Eleanor Roosevelt High School (2002-2006), Dr. Henry Wise High School (2006-2007) and Paul VI High School (2007-2011).

Johnson also held the position of vice president/assistant director of basketball operations for well-known AAU program TeamTakeover for six years. During that time, he also served as head coach of the program's 16U team."

- Solid high school connections to a region loaded with talent.

"Johnson went on to attend University of Maryland-College Park, where in 1999 he earned his degree in cell, molecular biology and genetics"

- Seems like a pretty smart guy.

RE: Keatts replacement
This behind the scenes has turned into a Kelly Mehrtens search. I do not feel good at all about what is going to happen. We easily could have hired a good coach early last week. I am now also convinced that we will not be able to retain the core of the team.

What were we doing last week? Three interviews occurred this week, but it's unclear to me what progress, if any, we made last week. Perhaps Siddle left because he saw the cluster.

In regards to Kenny Johnson, definitely seems to be a big time recruiter after reading through his bio. He was also at Indiana before coming to Louisville in 2014. Not sure if we can afford him. He got a pay raise this past season from $375k to $550K, which runs through 2018.

Also strange that we are looking at coaches from two schools that are on verge of the NCAA putting the hammer down on them for violations.

who? Ville and UNC? Can't speak for Louisville but if you are talking UNC don't count on it. I'd bet they skate by with very little happening, they are the NCAA cash cow

RE: Keatts replacement
Geez people, what's with all the negativity? We will have a new coach within 2 weeks of an overnight decision by Keatts if we announce Monday. Have you all lost your minds? And has it occurred to anyone that we aren't the only option these guys have? They all have good jobs right now and may have other suitors. The fact their names are out gives them leverage to negotiate with current or other employers for better contracts and with us as well. We're not hiring a receptionist, these people have agents!

I'm not being negative, or that's not my intent. I'm simply asking for more details regarding the similarities between this search and the KM search. I stated early on that a quiet search was good for Bass and UNCW. That is still true, but it lends itself to wild speculation. If there is evidence of dysfunction, I'd like to know.

Anthony Grant named coach at UD, and Pasternack the leading candidate at UCSB.

What evidence do you have there is dysfunction? There seems to be a desire to find or focus on negatives when there is zero evidence to support it. Someone said this "feels" like the Mehrtens search....are you f'in kidding me?

RE: Keatts replacement
One thing to remember. As we move up the coaching totem pole the competition for them increases. Pasternack was a top 3 candidate for both the Cal and UNLV jobs. Dooley was mentioned for UMass and several other very good jobs. The only candidate not mentioned with other very good jobs is McGrath.

Keatts was a completely different search. Bass had already built that relationship and those two knew they wanted to work together. The basic terms of a contract were already in place when Bass fired Buzz, and there was no actual "search". Buzz was fired to pull the trigger for Keatts. That type of search is the exception and not the rule.
