Who Should Replace Tubby?
At some point, Tubby will leave Memphis (hopefully after a successful run).
Who should replace Tubby?
I prefer an energetic and media savvy coach who loves and excels at recruiting and program promotion, possesses the willingness to mitigate his weaknesses, and do everything within the rules that advance winning. He (IMO) should run a defense and offense best fitting most Memphis area recruits (i.e., running and pressing like Louisville)

Hate to ask it about Penny but does he have what it takes to lead a high D1 program? Leading a program like ours, or at least what we want to get back to, requires a lot more than on-the-court coaching. Recruiting, salesmanship, organizational skills, and an ability to command respect from your players come to mind as skills needed to be successful. I would really like to see him as an assistant coach on our team before being seriously considered.

RE: Who Should Replace Tubby?
It depends on when we're replacing him. The list of "good" candidates changes annually. Candidates get hired away, sign extensions, or have rough seasons. A few years ago, Shaka Smart was on the top of everyone's list. I still believe Shaka can be a good coach, but his stock has dropped significantly.
I do believe we need someone that can market and sell the program. We have to get the fan base excited again. We also need to get recruits excited about the Memphis program again. 2008 was a loooooong time ago. Many recruits aren't as familiar with Memphis as we'd like to think they are.

Sounds like the guy we ran off.

I guess, but I've found that premature things are normally not good.

With all due respect to you, but...Aren't you glad "we ran him off"??? If not, this explains your disdain for Tubby and the constant "rue" from you. Certainly, we can agree that Josh was killing the program, RIGHT? Even if you personally liked him the way I did Larry Finch.
But to address your thought on josh...no he wasn't media savvy. He no longer excelled in recruiting. He also no longer excelled in program promotion, because he was taking shots at the fanbase and saying things like vacated wins and lowering the expectations hugely. He also had no ability to mitigate his weaknesses. He may have loved recruiting and wanted to follow rules. I'll give you those two, but none of the other things on Tiger1983's list, sorry.
I moved on and chose to continue to be a fan in a supporting way even after the school fired my friend Larry Finch.

I think Tubby's plan is to turn the program over to Saul.

Please tell me you are joking. Please. Because if you are serious I'm not for Saul being the next coach. I hate the sound of that.

Yep
Yep is right. You have shown your hand. You are irked that Wonder Boy is gone and really irked that he was pushed out. This clouds your judgement because you take it out on Tubby. Even though Tubby had nothing to do with Josh's record against the top 25, or Josh's last two seasons here where his record was *iss poor and caused us not to get into any tournament. You continue to take it out on Tubby. The real proof of my claim will be when and if Tubby has success, if you continue with your stance, your words of hate and negativity, I will be right. So until that time I will have to wait as you bash away all spring, all summer, all fall, and at least the beginning to mid winter, before I see if my thinking/theory of you is correct. I think I'm right.

The outgoing coach does not get to dictate who the next coach will be. Cal did not even have that kind of pull even though he tied...

When it comes time all these guys will be off the board but as a future hypothetical.
You calI 2/3 'untouchables'
Gregg Marshall
Archie Miller
Buzz Williams
Then you move on to a realistic list and vet:
Eric Musselman
Danny Hurley
Kevin Keatts
Steve Forbes
Matt McCall
Will Wade
Leon Rice
Etc

Or maybe you luck into a situation where OKC fires Billy D and he wants to coach college again.
