Why does anyone of note still schedule North Dakota State?
And why doesn't NDSU move up already? Because they have a small market and small stadium? So what, they have nothing left to prove at the FCS level and they can always move back down later.
Meanwhile, whatever happened to that mantra of FBS schools having nothing to gain and everything to lose by scheduling an NDSU? Iowa had to know the danger before scheduling them.

This is a little ironic coming from a Houston fan.
How would you feel if p5 teams said "Why does anyone of not still schedule Houston? Why have they not moved up to a power conference?"
It's nearly the same story as your program. They haven't moved up because there is not a major conference in their area that wants them. If the Big 10 came calling tomorrow they would not hesitate to say yes.

A whole hell of a lot different between FCS/FBS and G5/P5. I mean, if Oklahoma had beaten Houston, they would have gotten some credit for it. But TOTALLY different with North Dakota St.

RE: Why does anyone of note still schedule North Dakota State?
There's a rule that disallows any school to move up to FBS unless it has an invite from a FBS conf. That's the most immediate roadblock.
No current FBS conf has any interest in NDSU. And there's zero chance of a new FBS conf forming, for that matter.
So the NCAA would have to change its rule, just to have the conversation.

There's not nearly the penalty of losing to Houston as there is for losing to NDSU and besides Houston and teams in the premiere conferences compete for the same exact title. NDSU doesn't, yet is good enough to beat every team in D-I (on the right day of course, they'd lose the majority of their games to Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, etc...).

The MAC would add them in a heartbeat as well as possibly the Sun Belt and faintly C-USA would possibly. And I'm really asking rhetorically as opposed to really wondering why they haven't moved up.

The P5 could get the rules change to allow NDSU to moved up to be FBS, and still schedule them without being embarrassed by losing to an FCS team.

Maybe someone can give them a conditional membership.

C2,
Sorry, but that's incorrect. They won't be adding us any time soon. Maybe they should, but they won't. Especially Sun Belt and CUSA.

Should see what the ratings were for the game. It was on ESPN 2. If the ratings are that strong like Boise State's and other on the 2? Than why not?

I disagree, especially on the MAC. Then again the MAC is full and has to be tired of being used as a waiting area by the UMass'es and Temples of the world though NDSU would certainly be a long term add.

You disagree ... with what??? There's nothing to disagree on. The MAC has zero interest in any MVFC schools.
If you're saying "should", that's different.

Regardless of anything being said publically, I assert the MAC has their eye on them.

If the MAC goes fishing in FCS, it will be James Madison and/or Stony Brook. UMass could be on the table of the MAC winds up at 9 or 11 members.

RE: Why does anyone of note still schedule North Dakota State?
Gary Barta, Iowa's AD, played football at NDSU when they won DII championships. He was always under pressure from NDSU alums to schedule them, which he did after NDSU won their first FCS championship. Barta is often asked by the NDSU press what NDSU should do or who to hire. That relationship bit Barta in the a** now.
Iowa's assist AD Gene Taylor was the NDSU AD that made the hiring and facility decisions that led to the five consecutive FCS championships. No way those two were going to back out of the game and give NDSU a buyout instead. Iowa fans should want their scalps.
Oregon has scheduled NDSU in Eugene in 2020. NDSU can't find FBS games anymore, as the MAC and others refuse to schedule them.
A lot of the blame for Dakota power goes to an incompetent Minnesota football program. Most of the NDSU players that have gone pro were from Minnesota. Even SDSU has taken some top FBS quality players like Zenner and Weineke out of the Gophers backyard as the Gophers mistakenly assume their home state players aren't FBS quality. A standout RB at UND is another example.
There are Dakota players like Carson Wentz, Chad Greenway, and Jim Kleinsasser that have made an impact in the NFL. But those are exceptions as players from small states.

Future FBS opponents for NDSU are Oregon, 2020 & Colorado, 2024. I think the rest of FBS may have gotton gun-shy or the memo.

RE: Why does anyone of note still schedule North Dakota State?
Which is just fine. NDSU can win the FCS title playing a P5, a G5, all FCS, or even a DII, in non-conf play. It just doesn't matter. They've done them all in the run.
NoDak's comment is specious at best, foolish at worse. Minnesota recruits kids that look like and perform like P5 recruits in high school. Not kids who are a few inches short, a few steps slow, have grade issues, etc. etc. NDSU has to "take chances" on kids like that, and work hard to develop kids from high school. Minnesota doesn't have to do that.
And NDSU's other starter in the NFL is from Nebraska. Not the Dakotas or Minnesota. As are NDSU's current starting QB and top WR.

That's your personal opinion. Most fans view Houston the same way as NDSU.
And neither the MAC nor Sunbelt would add them on a heartbeat.

Because they can't expand much. Which is Fine if EVERY year it's the same as it is now... which it won't be if they dedicate themselves to FCS.
Why? They can only hold so much, and flight distance is big. It's about $$.
