How old is Blankenship? Gotta be over 60 right?

58...still got 5-7 good years of work left in him

hell, look at Larry Brown

Maybe so but he'll probably be following Fuente to VT. Even though it might be a good hire it's not a hire that would excite very much of the fan base......

Then get one of the others. If you get Brent or Barry, they should go after Sean Lewis as Offensive Coordinator, who coached both receivers and quarterbacks at Bowling Green under Dino Babers. That gives you a great defensive mind as HC with someone who has worked under Babers who worked under Briles.

How many games did Patterson coach & TCU play in the Big East?

RE: Concerns about Odom taking over
St Louis Dispatch. .......

If Fuente lands a power conference head-coaching job — he’s been linked to openings at Virginia Tech and South Carolina — Odom would be a natural successor in Memphis. Odom’s only experience as a head coach came at Columbia’s Rock Bridge High School in 2001-02.

Odom’s former boss believes he’s ready to become a college head coach.

“It’s not if, it’s just when,” Fuente said. “When he gets that opportunity he’s going to be very successful. I know he’s been preparing for it and training for it. When that opportunity comes along someone’s going to be very happy they hired him.”

Fuente believes Odom’s work as Mizzou’s director of operations from 2006-08 gives him a unique advantage over other coaching prospects. In that role, Odom oversaw all aspects of the program, including recruiting, budgets, travel and compliance. Fuente said that experience allowed Odom to understand “the inner workings of how things go.”

“He’s meticulously organized,” Fuente said. “He can make difficult decisions and is incredibly professional. He can reach the kids. He can connect with them.”

I would be ok with Odom, if he hired TC as offensive analyst and head recruiter. The team would be loaded with prospects..

I think his guy could be Sean Lewis at Bowling Green coached both WR's and QB's there. Knows the offense and was under one of Briles previous assistants.

Rip Scherer was an OC.
And a bad one!

pre-Memphis...Rip's teams avgd around 440-50 yards per game...which was good in the 90's.

In I-AA.

RE: Concerns about Odom taking over
TC might actually be right............ for a change. It could be Odom, if Missouri doesn't hire him as HC of course. Reading through the some national sports media tweets from a few weeks ago and they mention that they are hearing that Odom is the top candidate for the Memphis program if Fuente leaves

That Rip did not have a single decent offense while at Memphis. Come to think of it he didn't have very good offenses as an assistant at Bama either.

Barry Odom would bring in a Progressive OC....HE would brin gin most of his Defensive staff from Missouri...He is a players coach as well, and he will be the Next big thing.....He is talking to Missouri about their job and of course he take it first...Aw But Hearing Troy Calhoun and Matt Rhule are the two front runners right now....Plus with everything that went on their, and even though Players are Wanting it to be Odom, Rhodes their Ad might want to change and start fresh and thus Bring in Calhoun or Rhule which is why they are at the top of their wish list.....Stay Tuned....The World Is Ours Memphis....

Thankyou. Finally someone tells me something that I did not know about him. I did meet him and his young family a couple years ago when he was still with us. I was sitting next to them at the HH signing day party at a Cooper-Young joint and told him that I was glad that he was still with us (after turning down the hawgs). Very likable and, as I remember, a good speaker. I would be comfortable with him as head coach, especially if Dickey would stay to help him out. Adding an experienced former D-1 head coach to his staff was one of the smartest things Fuente ever did here and any new head coach would be wise to do the same. Our leaders are fools if they do not preserve continuity as much as possible.
