Odom is young and he's been successful wherever he's been. He could be the next hot young coach.

Where HAS he been? What exactly are his credentials?

He is at Missouri.. And he was with Fuente "here" last year.. Defensive Coach and a good one.. He would have to hire an Offensive Coordinator but him and Dickey have worked together so he might would keep Dickey unless he goes with Fuente!!

Does he have "it"? Fuente has that it factor that has made him such a hit with fans. A little swagger, brutally honest, and plays an exciting brand of football.

That is the hardest thing. Finding the right guy. Well, we finally found the right guy, let's see if he stays our guy.

If Odom wants to hire a progressive OC and leave him alone, I'd be all for hiring a defensive guy.

Rip Scherer was an OC.
And a bad one!

You'll note I said "progressive" OC.

I wouldn't hire the OC from Iowa or New Mexico either.

Dumbazz

Prior to coaching at Memphis, he was the head coach at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA from 1991-94, during a time when the Dukes set or tied over 140 school records and helped them to a 10-3 record in 1994 and 29-19 record in four years.

pre-Memphis...Rip's teams avgd around 440-50 yards per game...which was good in the 90's.

With Lynch to the NFL I wonder if quality coaches like Odom would hesitate? Otherwise I'm fully on board the Odom bus.

No way Odom would hesitate. DC at Mizzou is not going to be hired as HC at USC. He would jump at the chance. At the same time, I lean toward hiring a HC with OC and QB experience.

The reason why is offenses now are so dynamic and quarterback development is so vital which gives you the best chance to win games. Not only that, this team was built for offense, I would be really pissed if some defensive head coach came in and tried to install some pro style offense that won't work. Sorry for the rant but does anyone else feel this way?

After sitting through this season of Galen, I would gladly take an Odom/Dickey pair.

Odom - HC
Dickey - OC/Assoc HC/recruiting coordinator

that would be perfect.

Fuente to VTech with his boys: Blankenship, Galen, Cornelsen, Shibest...

I don't think I'm in favor of Odom for HC.

Dickey took crappy UNT to four straight bowls, and got a practice facility named after him...Blankenship won 19 games his first 2 years at Tulsa, was named CUSA COY, and won the Liberty Bowl.

and then what happened? Blankenship couldn't recruit; Dickey couldn't sustain.....

Whoever comes in will have some talent to work with. As long as they're not complete idiots they'll win the first couple of years....all that will mean is they're not completely incompetent. We won't know for sure what we've got until years 3 and 4 when they will be using primarily their own players.

That's just how it is.

So use some of that buyout $$$ (500k?) to get Blankenship a good recruiter...I'd love to go 11-2 and win the Liberty Bowl.

Barry Odom is only guy who already has Memphis connections that I would consider. I would want somebody like Lincoln Riley, Brent Vernables, Scott Frost, Dino Babers, or PJ Fleck.
