UCONN OOC Schedule 2016:

Maine
@ BC
Syracuse
Virginia

3 ACC opponents. Regional foes. I like.

Update from Mark Blaudschun. He has pretty good sources at BC. Sounds like its going to happen and frankly, thats great new for UConn, UMass, BC, and the AAC. New England needs some football rivalries. Could happen as early as this week supposedly. Sounds really interesting----

The master plan for the future involving the three New England schools is simple. Schedule a continuing series of non-conference games against each other, which would aid each of the three athletic directors–Brad Bates at BC, Ryan Bamford at UMass and Warde Manuel at UConn-in future scheduling.

There has been some internal pressure at BC to have the Eagles kick off their season each Labor Day weekend (on a Thursday night) against either UMass or UConn.

That move would then allow the notoriously placid BC fans to attend the football game AS WELL as spend Labor Day weekend in various other non-football activities.

For Boston College, the scheduling formula is also fairly simple. Schedule two non conference games against UMass and UConn each season, pick up another FCS (presumably a New England school) for a third opponent and then find the most attractive Power 5 conference school as the fourth non-conference opponent.

A future non-conference schedule which would include UMass, UConn, Maine or New Hampshire or URI and say, a Michigan or a Stanford, would be a much easier sell on a season ticket package than this year’s schedule which included Maine, Howard, and Northern Illinois.

Not surprisingly, no official at any school is willing to say this deal is done until the contracts are signed.

But all signs suggest such a move is close to getting done and that BC is the school that controls the timing.

This says you've got @UMass in 2016. Maybe you'll drop Maine and pickup @BC.
Looks like you would've had 7 home games in 2016.

EDIT.... Per link above this post it sounds like @BC would replace @UMass. You would $till have 7 home game$.

This would be IDEAL for the New England football fans. Having BOTH of the other teams on the schedule every year would have to excite the locals.

No it's a three way deal in order to swap out some of the games. UConn, UMass, and BC are all involved.

The plan would call for UMass to get rescheduled and UMass/BC/UCONN will work out an agreement to play annual games.

EDIT: NEVERMIND! - i never understasnd why I sometimes post before reading links

Still a bit mum on whether BC is going to return a home game, but this is pointing in a good direction for New England.

I'm kind of on the fence about whether UConn should agree to a one off with "BCU" - but if you are simply looking at it as an oppurtunity to swap a UMass road game for a BC road game it is an easier decision.

I don't think it is a one off. UCONN is doing BC a huge favor, and Warde is a smart guy. I think UCONN will get something out of it down the line.

Regional rivalries are of interest to outsiders. They have passion and that is of interest to all fans.

I was calling out BC for being skeered. If BC and UConn set up a 5 game series, UConn could easily win 2. BC doesn't want any of that. You don't see Wake Forest or Duke scheduling East CArolina or UCF or Arkansas State, do you?

It's always tough to get your regional rivals from a conference above you to play you. The bigger conference team is 'supposed' to win and gets no credit and is seen with putting the lower conference team on equal footing.

We haven't had a game against UT@knoxville in forever. Ole Miss and Miss St only give us home and home games since they can bring enough fans to make our home games more neutral-ish games.

It's crappy, but it is what it is.

I hate when the P5 does this to us, but I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to give equal term home and homes to Sun Belt and CUSA teams either...

Weird we play Baylor and TCU regularly of course we really suck so they chalk that up as a win

The Head Coach at Duke has said in a number of interviews he would like to schedule ECU in football, but ECU has not had the interest. The ECU AD has realized that Duke does not have the fans that travel to assist with ticket sales and they are not enough of a draw in football to pull out casual ECU bandwagon fans compared to the other regional draws we play in OOC. Your statement is not relevant to ECU.
