UConn is a valuable athletic program, and under different circumstances I could see either the ACC or the Big Ten inviting them. However, the circumstances facing the ACC when Maryland left dictated taking a football-first school, preferably one which would block the Big XII from further Eastern expansion. Mission accomplished.
UConn fans understand that. We're just frustrated that everything about UConn is P5 (athletics, academics, market) except for the football program. We didn't get to FBS until 2002 and were paying for it. That's our Achilles heel.
But we really did have a good team in the Edsall years. We can do it again.
And that's the thing that counts for the most, thus why you're not in the P5...

To be fair, I don't think UConn was that great under Edsall...you guys just benefitted from us and WVU being down.

Edsall's teams weren't great. They were very good; many ranked in the 25-50 range. I'd take that in a minute today.

Wow I thought winning so many Titles in Basketball would make us somewhat liked by others.... I guess winning causes jealousy.

Building an off campus football stadium an hour from campus is not "correcting the situation".
Essentially your own fans are to blame for where you are. If UConn had focused on football earlier in it's history it would be in a power conference. If UConn fans turned on the TV to watch football and attended games UConn would be in a power conference. But they don't. Games in the ttens and 20's along with terrible TV ratings demonstrate a school with limited fan support in football, like all the other New England flagship schools.
UConn does not bring any TV market for football. None. Even had a 0.0 TV rating for the Memphis game last year.
UConn's worst enemy is it's own fans. They don't support the team and do not financially support the AD like other power schools. That is why UConn has to force the money out of them via taxes and relies on taxpayers of 1/3 of the AD budget.

This ^^.
The 4 loss UConn team that won the BE and played OU in a BCS game would never have won a power conference. Quite frankly they are arguably the worst team to ever play in a BCS game.

No, I think most fans on here are simply really sick and tired of how entitled UConn fans act. Threads about realignment, even if it's the BigXII we're talking about, always end up being hijacked by UConn fans shouting "LOOK AT US! LOOK AT US!" and it gets old in a hurry.

And we are equally tired of Louisville fans acting like they are more than a red island in a sea of blue that got ahead on accounting gimmicks and a lack of academic standards.
