I am a proud NIU fan and have been since my fiancee and I attended school there for the first time. I watched a heismann candidate work magic on the field and watched my team take FSU into the lockerroom at halftime barely edging us out. Is there something wrong with being a proud fan? When i hear people slam on my team and toss it aside for not being worthy I'll set the record straight and remind them of how far NIU has come. If that's "having a boner for" my school then damn right i do.

Hold up playa. Listen, I like NIU well enough. I hate UConn with a passion. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here though. That game was 31-10. A three touchdown game is a blowout by most standards. If it makes you feel any better though, UConn lost theirs by FOUR touchdowns! COGS
Right but that was the END game score. The game was competitive until the second half. Hell it was like 7-3 until the 2nd half then a few NIU mistakes and a costly fumble for a touchdown? That was a closer game than a lot of people remember

Cincinnati lost their BCS game the worst - - I'd still take them over UConn or NIU...
Well yeah i wont take anything away from the bearcats haha they're a damn fine school and athletic program

Do you really want to talk about history? If the MAC is bad then what about the Yankee Conference which you played in up until the 90's. LOL.

You have quite the boner for Huskies I see... I didn't say UCONN was any better than NIU at football. NIU has also been playing longer at the top level, and NIU's greatest achievement in football is the same as UCONN's - a blowout loss in a BCS bowl.
Look at the poll. It isn't just me. Your fans are delusional. The only fan base who still follows the dude. Congrats.

UConn was in the Yankee conference in the early 90s.. hahah.. then they were playing prime time conference games with WVU and Louisville and beating them (granted, only beating WV once, but Louisville was a good rivalry - seems to me UConn won the last game at their place...) It's been posted on here numerous times, but UConn also had two of the top ranked TV ratings last year for all P5 schools (vs. BYU and vs. Boise).

If I were the Big 12, yes, I'd take BYU and Cincinnati before UConn... geographically a much better fit, Cincy is a fine school and pairs well with WV and BYU has a better football program than, let's say 15 P5 schools... that's not a knock on UConn.

I think all of these polls are "they hate us cause they ain't us". Trust me.. I'm an Ohio State fan.. I know what it is all about. It's just my alma mater is a lot better at basketball than the school where my dad played.
Where did you come up with that?

BYU UConn was not one of the top rated p-5 games all season. There were 11 games with higher ratings just that week. Numbers were not that good considering BYU accounted for most of the fans anyway. To put it in perspective Houston /BYU had similar ratings. LOL

You are right.. typo on my end... top five "G5" (only) games... it was actually posted on here.

Ahh, makes more sense. I think to be realistic the BYU game was when BYU was undefeated and their QB was really playing well before he got injured. But Houston drew a .6 against BYU 2 weeks later so I think its safe to say that a good portion of that rating is/was BYU fans.

Here is a normal TV rating for UConn later in the season once the few fans stop showing up and watching on TV

Anybody who thinks the Big 12 should add UConn and Memphis has some splaining to do. Those are not acceptable TV ratings.

And a BCS bowl berth, when has UCONN done that recently =p

And women's basketball doesn't count. Nobody in the P5 is using that as their argument for UCONN...

Why don't UConn fans ever brag about the fact they were a middle-of-the-road team in a power conference for 10 years - they sort of proved they could compete in a power conference, albeit the "weakest one" (the Big East top-to-bottom was still better than the ACC if you take away it's 2 elite programs... but whatever). In a 6-year period they shared the conference title once and won it outright once?

Just because the last two coaches have been train wrecks, there's nothing that special about Edsall but their resume under him was P5 worthy... laugh at me and I'll point out 5 P5 schools that were worse in that same era. (Kansas, Duke, Syracuse, Pitt, Indiana... see a trend ?) I could probably pick out a few more, right?

Just throwing it out there for the millionth time.. I'm in NYC a lot... I never, ever, ever see Rutgers gear.. I see plenty of Syracuse and UConn clothing though.

Do I need to pull out further numbers? 4 bowls in Edsall's last 5 years?

Wins over Baylor, Notre Dame, South Carolina, every team in the Big East (WV, Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville)... also Duke, Wake, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Indiana.. also with respectable losses to Boise St., NC State, North Carolina and Michigan. 1 outright title, 1 shared title... average finish final 10 years in the Big East was 4th place.

They suck now, yes, and I don't have a ton of faith in Diaco - but they are one good coach away from being as good as any other G5 program in football in 2-3 years.
I think you missed recruiting/talent. 1 coach can't fix that issue. Every time I look UConn is near the bottom of the AAC in recruiting. At a time when UConn needs a good football program more than ever the program is doing what it has always done. Essentially nothing. Could not have picked a worse time to be a bottom of the conference program in a marginal conference.

Programs like UCF, USF, ECU, Houston, and SMU will murder UConn in recruiting moving forward.

Every year UConn was in the Big East they were also last or second to last in recruiting. They still averaged a winning record in conference play. Don't buy too much into recruiting numbers. Who recruits better? BC or UConn? Syracuse or UConn? Now go look at how many players get drafted out of those schools. There were 22 NFL players from UConn in 2014. They had a first round draft pick this year... guess how many stars he was? Byron Jones was a 2-star prospect. Geremy Davis was drafted this year too.. 3-star prospect. And these were guys who "developed" under Pasqualoni and Diaco - not Edsall. Sio Moore is an NFL starter - 2 stars. UConn has had a just one 4 star (rivals) guy ever.

Northeast guys are always overlooked in recruiting.

Not much difference in the TV ratings for the B12 and the top of the G5. Take Texas and Oklahoma out of the mix and you are right there with them.

Rank ▴ Conference Avg Viewers Avg Rating # of Rated Gms
10 Sun Belt 603,694 0.42 18
9 C-USA 780,254 0.50 42
8 MAC 792,583 0.50 36
7 AAC 971,983 0.65 60
6 MWC 1,010,406 0.65 49
5 Big 12 1,625,221 1.01 92
4 Pac 12 1,759,673 1.11 76
3 ACC 1,961,674 1.25 88
2 Big 10 2,920,815 1.84 82

Nope, both KU and OSU had a bad season of ratings for the most part. ESPN News and FS1 get similar ratings so it's not the network. It's embarrassing but at 296k still over 6x more than the 45k listed for UConn/Memphis game.
