And the Louisville and Oklahoma State fans have been pure gentlemen.
Ratings are about winners... UConn was bloody awful last year... if UConn was good, people would watch. When UConn football was good/decent they got better ratings. The Big East did one thing well with TV - they put those Thur/Fri match ups on with marquee teams from the league vs. up-and-comers... how many West Virginia/USF or Louisville/UConn (unfair catch!) games were thur/fri night games?!?!

Most fan bases support their team when winning. The good ones keep that support during the down years. Both Uconn and ISU have been on a bad run in recent years. UConn's attendance has been in in the 20's and even a game in the teen recently. ISU is expanding their stadium to over 60k becasue of demand for season tickets. See the difference? And at that ISU is sharing a small state with Iowa and UConn has the whole state to itself but struggles to get people to pay attantion. It's just different in that area.

Helps ISU to have Texas, Baylor, TCU, etc. coming in. UConn's stadium is ready to be expanded... it's just not yet. They put the money into the practice facilities instead - football is good, basketball is building - and a hockey rink is coming. They did build extra seating for Maryland/Michigan 2 years ago and sold out for the Michigan game.
I don't get the Iowa State comparison.. they are already in a P5 - you know, SOOOO much better than UConn (despite the fact they are 1-1 vs. UConn in football and 1-1 vs. UConn in basketball). Compare UConn to a fan base of G5 that is currently in a football slump... check out Louisville's 2009 attendance.. there's a good comparison. 21K for a non-league game... 23K for a meaningless game against a good Rutgers team.

I won't even get into the Hoiberg bashing I heard after Iowa State lost in the tournament the last couple years (albeit the losses seemed better as the tournament progressed...)
UConn has only themselves to blame for this situation - they did a horrible job of branding themselves with football. They were an average P6 football school in one of the two weaker leagues, maybe slightly above for Edsall's last 4 years (9-4, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5 - no lower than 3rd (tie) those years). You never hear anyone but Connecticut fans say "ya know, UConn was an average power conference football team". Edsall was not Vince Lombardi - even with clueless Pasqualoni they still beat first-place teams (Rutgers at the time, Louisville at the time) in the conference their last two years in the Big East and went 5-7.
This is where I fault Bob Diaco - as I've said numerous times, if UConn doesn't beat Notre Dame in South Bend in 2009 (yes, that happened) Weis may not get fired, Kelly may not come in and hire Diaco as a coordinator. Diaco trashed UConn and has done a total rebuild and it's going to be at least 2 more years before they are respectable again. He had no trouble playing Edsall and Pasqualoni's star players like Byron Jones, Geremy Davis, etc... or even chasing off potential stars like Jefferson Ashiru (who will see serious playing time at Maryland) or Shak Phillips (who had character issues but his character was good enough to play at Boston College the next year).
UConn should have emphasized the fact they were competitive at the power-conference level... but not once does anyone from that place ever say that. Nor do you hear about the TV ratings (discussed on this thread already...) or the fact that basketball is still a solid #2 in college sports, hands down.

You're right. The first five win National Championships in football while the sixth wins National Championships in basketball.
All of the above have Championship-caliber programs. I know that's a foreign concept for a Northern Illinois fan...
It's a shame basketball isn't the train that drives advancement into a better conference. Football is king baby, and success in football is what grabs the higher ups attention. Something foreign to UConn
Sure about that?
It may grab someone's attention, but football success is not king. Conference musical chairs is all about what school best fits the current agenda of the conference expanding.
One of the Huskies is trending upward the other fields a football team my nephew could be recruited by (he's 5'10 and 155 with very average stats in most every case). You must be Jewish man cuz damn does your school love experiencing that Passover (for a P5 spot) hahaha
If we were starting from scratch today to fill about 64 spots in P5, UConn would be P5. NIU wouldn't even be in the conversation.

That's a pretty arrogant thing to say! Why was UConn passed over during the last major reshuffling of the P5?

Mainly because BC is terrified of competing with UConn on a level playing field. Even though we're in separate TV markets, BC doesn't want serious competition 90 miles away.
And Louisville had a 20 year head start on us in building a solid football program.

BC isn't the reason that UConn isn't in the ACC right now.

Let's be honest here.. Louisville belongs in a P5 and fit in the ACC... there's a lot of teams in the ACC that are weaker... Louisville was just the last one in.

There's only one team on this list that wins championships. I guess there are a lot of jealous fan bases out there.

The only reason there was a tie was because Cincinnati was basically playing a JV line against Memphis due to injuries.
