Two reasons
West Virginia
Texas
Both would agree that Cincy is a better option.

Bingo. A fifth Texas team doesn't appreciably boost their presence there and it takes away from recruiting and marketing of the other four. There's no way they expand without giving West Virginia a travel partner.

NDSU is a much better option than Cincy. Cincinnati is perpetually challenged by the pervasiveness of UofL, tOSU, and UK fans in their region and even though they have a dedicated fan following they have been stuck in the position of a middle-tier school without much of a natural following. NDSU brings a massive following into the fold and gives the Big XII a market farther north than ISU does. Championship quality teams are the norm at NDSU unlike Cincy. I imagine a new domed stadium could be built in a few years with 40-50,000 seats that would sell out each game for the Bison.

This is simply just not an accurate depiction.
First, no I-AA school is going to be given the keys to a P5 conference house.
Second, NDSU has been able to recruit under the radar kids from the Minneapolis area, sneak in a few decent out of the region recruits who also flew under the radar all of whom are perhaps slighlty better than the rest of their I-AA schedule once you mix them together.
To expect they are going to be able to recruit to and compete at the Big XII level is not realistic.

UT also despises and wants nothing to do with UH.

Massive following lol. There are more people within the city limits of Austin than in the entire state of North Dakota.

While I agree with you 100%, they'll getting a recruiting bump simply from being in the Big XII. They'll go from I-AA recruits to recruiting better than any CUSA program within a year.

Yeah, much further north, like 475 miles north of Ames, IA and 1200 miles north of Austin.

Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it can't. NDSU's program would get an immediate recruiting burst from moving up at all, and I bet they could out-recruit most Big 12 schools with equal conference placement, considering they have won four national championships in a row. Honestly, if they can consistently beat low and mid-tier B12 teams each year, they can probably compete strongly if they were actually in the conference.

I was really looking for BETTER answers than this guys. Hell, even I know the Univ of Texas has a big presence in Houston. But the Longhorns aren't IN HOUSTON. They are IN AUSTIN. The Big XII added TCU, despite UT having a big presence in Ft Worth too. But it didn't stop 'em from adding TCU. And just like TCU, Houston was in the Southwest Conference with Texas, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech.

To improve, they'll have to recruit California, Texas, and the Southeast pretty hard given the lack of FBS prospects in that part of the county. I find it unlikely that top tier recruits from those regions are going to want to fly over a thousand miles to play in a city where it snows over 50 inches a year.
Not to mention the ludicrous notion that the Big XII is going to add a school whose stadium seats 19,000 when only Big XII school averaged 40,000 in attendance last year (Kansas).

It's the 34th largest TV market in the country and a market the Big 12 is currently not in. And let's remember why TCU was added to the Big 12:
1. They lost T A&M and Mizzou and was down to 8 teams.
2. TCU has had tremendous success on the field making them attractive regardless of location.
The mistake the Big 12 made was not inviting WVU, UL, and Cincy all together.

Rumor has it that Nebraska is not so happy in the BIG10. If the BIG12 could take them back, it would be huge for the conference. It's unlikely, but possible. I think the BIG 12 takes Memphis and BYU. They don't need UH. They probably would love Louisville, but it's probably too late for that. Who's to say they don't go to 14 by adding BYU, Memphis, Cincy, and Nebraska?

There is no way in Hell that Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, OU, or OKie State vote to add any school located in Texas in any expansion scenario! Thus, Houston no matter how deserving is screwed and after adding BYU (if they do) the Big 12 will go with Cincy or Memphis.

I still think there are only 4 or 5 schools that will even be considered for a P5 league. Cincy, Uconn, Navy, Co. State and BYU. Memphis has little football success and is a little lacking in academic pedigree to be in the top 5. I'm quite surprised UConn hasn't been picked up yet. I think they're the best pick. The only conferences that make sense for them are the ACC or Big 10 though. If I were the B10 I would have taken UConn over Rutgers. I wish it would go ahead and happen. Let the dominoes fall so the G5 can restructure into something more geographically sensible.

FSU and Clemson to Big 12.
The ACC per team payout is seriously lagging behind the other P5 schools, and the Big12 has the highest per team. The only thing that will stop it is the ACC getting a network.
These adds will firm up the league for the long haul, and will get the Big12 into Florida.
BYU does makes sense (but haven't been taken yet, so there's the Big 12s interest level), as does Colorado St once they finish that boondoggle $260 million stadium that they need to pay for. So does Cincy as a travel partner, and perhaps even Memphis, though they need to get their programs back on track. Boise St, UCF, and Houston are dark horses. Houston is almost hopeless though as long as Texas runs the show.
And that's the entire list. The rest of the suggestions are fantasy. NIU, ULL, NDSU, seriously? LOL. No way. Ever. If the Big 12 ever starts adding teams like that, it will only be as backfill after all the flagship programs have left, and it won't really be the big 12 anyway.
