You don't think a new coach would keep Keelon Lawson? You don't think the guys who have considered transferring away from Josh wouldn't be thrilled to stay here and play for a legit coach?

NO. Not by the coach we will end up with. They will be free agents.
You're nuts.

Why?

Notwithstanding the nuances of the buyout that wouldn't likely amount to the $2.65MM a year, Pastner is most certainly on the hot seat at Memphis.

Unless he can pull out a REALLY strong season next year AND the year after (which could be difficult if one looks at the potential roster for 16-17) he will likely be gone.

So, he can make two more years salary (and he isn't making 2.65 because that includes ALL possible bonuses) OR take another job that pays $1.5 and have a guaranteed 5 years. Of course that doesn't even take into the consideration possible salary bumps after a couple good seasons.

If he gets canned at Memphis he will have to take a big step down job or be unemployed for at least a year and I highly doubt he'll be asked to be a studio analyst in the meantime.

he's get a few seasons of no pressure at a P5 school. I'd look really hard at it.

at what cost. Oh the shortsightedness.

When this story came up, my 'Pastner is such an awesome guy' half came up and started fighting with my 'but he's paid to win big basketball games and I'm no longer sure he can do that here' side. I'm good either way, despite the trail of broken objects from me throwing things during blowout losses all season.

All true. However, he has to weigh all of that against a large buyout potentially coming his way at the end of of next year.

This is the scenario that was talked about that would be best for both parties.

An amicable split. Josh accepts another job, our leadership shakes his hand, everyone is happy.

This would be the best scenario. The problem is that no other school wants him.

I hate to play the "source" card. I'll just say that I heard that Josh's camp reached out to ASU a week ago. He is interested from what I was told.
I think this will happen .

except that he is mentioned as a top candidate at ASU, so I guess someone might want him.

What's not to like about ASU? His stock is still up. Next year is uncertain.

Some of these responses are pathetic. It would probably be a good idea for him to go just to get away from this fanbase.

AZ fan here, if JP goes to ASU it is a HUGE step down and I am not being biased because ASU is our rival. They have an apathetic fan base for basketball and only draw a decent crowd when we play there (I think they average about 4,000 fans other than our annual game there) Memphis is one of the best destinations for a coach IMHO with tons of upside. Oh, did I mention, ASU will not pay anywhere near the Memphis pay scale. And last, good luck out recruiting Sean Miller, not gonna happen at ASU.

We don 't care about Sean Miller ,Arizona , Arizona State or anything else you have to say. We just want Pastner to leave.

You do realize that his post was complementary of memphis, don't you? What an A-hole response.

I wish you would call me that to my face. Easy to call people names va a keyboard. . You are the a-hole, punk.

Dude, re-read his response. He didn't call you an a-hole.

It is. You will have more players transfer than what were going to transfer. We might actually have 2 losing seasons.
