2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel
Shall we begin ?

Dan Wolken ‏@DanWolken
Georgia Tech loses to Boston College to finish its season 12-19. Now we wait to hear if the Brian Gregory era is over.

Some of these will be important since I think Larry Davis will be connected to several.

I am hoping Cal sneaks out the back door to the Cav's as the wolves show up at the door in Lexington.

Crean IU. One of the most talked-about portions of that contract is Crean's hefty buyout, which stands at $12 million until July 1, 2015. After July 1, it falls to $7.5 million.

But were Indiana to terminate that contract without cause after the season but before July 1, Crean's buyout would actually fall between $1 million and $1.4 million less than what's listed in his contract. The reason is a clause attached to the buyout procedure

I think IU really wants to get rid of Crean, but only if they know they can get who they want.

They want Brad Stevens, coach of the Celtics and former head coach at Butler.

Wife went to Butler. Loved his tourny runs. Wish UC had him as a HC. Very talented young HC.

If Texas doesn't make a nice run in the tourney I could see Rick Barnes on the way out. He has underachieved alot with some pretty good talent. UCLA may be getting impatient with Alford

I don't know why. The former Dayton phenom's record the past four years:

2011/12: 11-20
2012/13: 16-15
2013/14: 16-17
2014/15: 12-19

No NCAA tournament births. If I was the GT AD and alumni I would be demanding/looking for a new coach.

They went to the Sweet Sixteen his first year and are on the bubble this year. Was he supposed to have a national championship already or something?

This is Alford's 2nd year there. And they were a 4 seed and in the sweet 16 last year. Firing him now would strike me as odd.

Gregory should be fired. He is a terrible coach. Their AD is Mike Bobinski, the former AD of Xavier. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris Mack was one of the leading candidates should they fire Gregory.

UCLA has always been trigger happy with coaches. I would say they probably wait another year or so, but most people feel the Alford hire was a backup plan when a few of their first options turned them down. Their alumni and fans demand to be elite.

Travis Ford is going nowhere. He has done well at Oklahoma State in what is a very, very good basketball league. He is also a good recruiter.

RE: 2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel
If Gregory is retained it is simply due to the fact that if they fire him they would then be paying three head coaches next year. They still owe Paul Hewitt money plus whomever the new coach would be. A story in the AJC yesterday was questioning whether they have the money to pay all three and if they did make the move would have to pay the new guy on the cheap.
