If you can't recruit top tier talent in Chicago, where the heck can you recruit?

Couldn't you say that about pretty much every Depaul coach for the last 30 years?

Not really. Both Ray and Joey Meyer did an excellent job of getting and using quality kids out of Chicago.

In my lifetime I only remember them being decent one time and was when Quentin Richardson was there.
Same thing could be said about St. John's being very average most years.

Is this the same Joey Meyers that set DePaul back about 20 years?

The following comes from Wikipedia. This is how much he set DePaul back:
Quote:Joey Meyer led DePaul to seven NCAA Tournament appearances in his first eight seasons, including back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances in his second and third seasons. In the 1986 tournament, #12-seeded DePaul—led by freshman guard Rod Strickland (14.1 ppg season average) and junior Dallas Comegys (13.8 ppg) -- upset #5-seeded Virginia and #4-seeded Oklahoma in the East regional before losing to top-seeded Duke 74-67. In 1987, the Blue Demons—again led by Comegys (17.5 ppg) and Strickland (16.3 ppg) -- finished the regular season 26-2 and received a #3 seed in the Midwest regional of the 1987 tournament. They defeated #14-seeded Louisiana Tech and #6-seeded St. John's before losing to #10-seeded LSU. Meyer was honored as the Chevrolet Coach of the Year in 1987. Besides seven NCAA tournament appearances, Meyer led the Blue Demons to three appearances in the National Invitation Tournament.
In both 1988 and 1989, DePaul reached the second round of the NCAA tournament, but they were on a downward trajectory. In 1992, the Blue Demons were co-champions of the newly formed Great Midwest Conference but made their last NCAA tournament appearance under Meyer. In 1996, they finished 11-18, their first losing season since 1971, and the next year, a young DePaul team finished 3-23. Meyer was dismissed on April 28, 1997 and succeeded by Pat Kennedy just over six weeks later.

Dave Bezold out at NKU
Jeff GoodmanVerified account @GoodmanESPN
Look for Xavier assistant Travis Steele to be in mix at Northern Kentucky, source told ESPN. Strong recruiting ties in area.

St. John's has never really recovered from the decision to build on campus housing. It killed their ability to get the best NYC players.

Howland would be a good fit at MSU. He was way in over his head at UCLA. Defensive minded coach, with somewhat shady recruiting practices, seems like an SEC coach. He could have miss. state a respectable NIT/NCAA 20-25 win team most years

Over his head at UCLA? He took them to 3 final fours and to a title game. In 10 years. His last year they won 25 games and finished first in the Pac-12. Hardly in "over his head".

Arizona State coach Herb Sendek is expected to learn if he will be relieved of his duties at a Tuesday morning meeting with athletic director Ray Anderson, multiple sources told ESPN Monday night.
If the Sun Devils move on Sendek, a number of names have already emerged as possible candidates, including Memphis coach Josh Pastner and UC Irvine's Russell Turner.

A good portion of Memphis fans would be ecstatic to see Pastner hired away. How about Archie Miller? That would create an interesting dynamic in the state of Arizona.

Man I hope Pastner doesn't leave Memphis, for selfish reasons. Maybe they'd wind up with a coach that knew what he was doing.

RE: 2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel
I understand a lot of Memphis fans do not like Pastner, but he has won a lot of games there. There is a lunatic fringe element with that fan base that seems to expect a final four every year, yet they only have one in their entire history, vacated ones do not count, and even then its only three I think.

Arizona State needs a high-energy, young guy who will connect w/fans. Someone who knows area would help. Josh Pastner makes plenty of sense.
