Barnes is out at Texas. Guy has been there for 17 years, sad ending.

Sleeping giant is about to be awoken.

Unless they make a really poor hire, that is.

That is a job that I think Greg Marshall or Shaka Smart may pursue. With the right coach, Texas can be an Arizona, Florida, North Carolina or Michigan State and can more regularly challenge Kansas for Big 12 supremacy.

Do they have any basketball history whatsoever?

Wow...they have done it so quietly. It's hard for the "football first" schools to stand out on the hardwood, IMHO.

Texas has been pretty good fairly recently... Just sayin'.

I always thought Rick Barnes seemed like a decent enough guy, just seemed to underachieve with a lot of talent.

06-07 team had Durant, Augustin, and Damian James on it and couldn't make it past the second round...that is the example I always throw to someone when I hear Barnes is a great coach.

RE: 2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel
For those always asking for the UC relevance in OT threads:

- Mike Williams was an underachieving McD's for Texas before transferring to UC.
- UC was in the final two for TJ Ford, who chose Texas
- UC beat Texas in the first round in 2012, that team featured five star Myck Kabongo, who went pro behind an agent scandal.
- UC also prevailed in the 1963 NCAA semifinal.

Some interesting points of contact but if you are going all the way back to a 1963 game, how could you completely skip over the LaSalle Thompson saga??? 05-nono

I hope Gregg Marshall doesn't leave Wichita state. I enjoy watching the shockers.

Two programs stuck in the past. NY kids don't want to play in NY, Chicago kids don't want to play in Chicago. It's unfortunate, but both are on the wrong side of history. Look at all the LA schools with the exception of UCLA garbage. UIC and DePaul? Garbage. If you're St Johns, who are you competing with in town? Columbia? Kids just aren't interested in these big city programs anymore. No coaching change is going to fix that. If you still think basketball is a big city sport, just waiting for the right folks to resurrect it, then you might want to ask yourself; why is Lexington Kentucky and Madison Wisconsin playing in half the final four bracket and Durham North Carolina and Lansing Michigan in the other?

RE: 2015 Basketball Coaching Carousel
To be fair, here's who each program is recruiting against, locally, in order of prominence:

Saint John's:
-Syracuse
-UConn
-Rutgers
-Seton Hall
-Manhattan
-Fordham/Sienna/etc...

DePaul:
-Notre Dame
-Illinois
-Marquette
-Northwestern
-UIC,Loyola,etc...

My point is that both schools face stiff recruiting challenges.

At Johns maybe.

DePaul is competing with Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas.

I'll give you Syracuse, although they're not really in town per se, but if it's tough to sell kids on New York over Piscataway or South Orange; that's kind of proving my point. As for DePaul's foes, most of those schools don't really get Chicago guys either. I'm confused on how the Illini get kids to come to Champaign but I guess, they've had some success in the last 10 years.

If you build it, they will come.
