Had to get Lawson a job to get those kids and they are NOT the saviors...book it. They're good but not the saviors...
Exactly and the Lawsons are good players but they aren't program changers, those all go to Kensucky!!

This dude can't coach!
This hits the nail on the head. I used to laugh at people who said josh was in over his head the first few seasons, but his indecision and inn ability to stick with anything screams this point loud and clear. He is just not enough of a leader to be a head coach.

I said it on the gamethread. There wont be any stupid midseason firing, but while I used to think he had this year and next year, I'm starting to think realistically that he may not have next year if stuff like tonight continues.
If we can't get 3 conference wins, then that should do it. He'll be fired after the season if we can't any more than 3.
The conference is terrible, we'll probably be somewhere around 500.
Off the top of my pointed head--we get swept by UConn, Cincy, Temple, and SMU. We split with Houston, Tulsa, UCF, and USF. We sweep Tulane and ECU.
That's 8-12.

Really though ... at this point ... what makes any of you think we can split with Houston, Tulsa, etc. Maybe, but wishful thinking IMHO.

I think the recruiting is already gone. Other than the Lawsons, local kids aren't coming here any more. They would be going anywhere that their dad is a coach.
It is funny to see the sunshine pumpers getting a slap of reality upside their head, though

Pastner did pull a 4 star from out of town this year didn't he...If he gets that kid to stick he is the best recruiter ever.

What worries me is we don't have the room to be bad as long as other schools in better conference situations. If we lose "it", do we ever get "it" back ? This isn't the 70s or 80s any more. College basketball has changed significantly.

It's not the players. I promise you we have more talent than SFA....
Not much. Not a single player other than Shaq/Austin would get over 10 mpg on last years team everyone bashed. And not having ONE guard who can get those two the touches they need negates a lot of their talent. And they can't handle pressure at all. Wait till we play a good pressing team.
All of this is on Josh. He recruited and coached (?) these new players. King is worst ball handler on team other than the BIGS. I posted this after first game. Very few listened.

It makes me really think about just how talented JJ and TB and CC really were to be able to overcome Pastner's coaching to the extent that they did. They made him millions and he got them a grand total of 2 tournament wins and nary a sweet 16.
Those guys saved his ass and made him a multi-millionaire.

RE: Do you realize how hard it is to be this BAD at Memphis?
Pastner did what he's best at early on. He recruited a few great classes and that talent allowed him to rack up a lot of wins against crappy teams. But realize the majority of that talent came from Memphis...hometown kids that idolized the program.
There's a reason his 0 for whatever against top 25 teams was constantly brought up. Only when his best team became seniors did they finally start winning a share of those games.
The problem that was brewing however is that he was exposed as a medicore coach. And guess what. Players talk. That talk started taking a toll on recruiting, and that leads to where we are now. Right back to where we started in year 1 but this team is a hell of a lot worse than that team cal left him.
Pastner has successfully nuked his own program. It will take a cal-like figure to rebuild it and rebuild the brand thst has deteriorated under his watch.

I'd kill for some of that awful chemistry right now. So tired of the experts and insiders covering for the real problem which is finally undeniable.
