RE: Do you realize how hard it is to be this BAD at Memphis?
I've been a Josh supporter all along, but for some reason this season has completely changed my mind and made me realize what Memphis will be with him as the head coach. I guess I always thought, well it'll get better soon, the big recruits will come, etc. But we will just be a team that makes the tournament every other year or so and loses first round. Nothing is going to change with him as head coach, and that's coming from one of the most optimistic people you will find. I was watching the game on TV last night with some friends and it became so embarrassing I had to turn it as I didn't want everyone to see how awful this team really is coached. It's sad. Like I don't even get mad anymore because it's just expected now. What do you think recruits think when they see us lose to Christian Brothers and Stephen F. Austin at home? And then get blown out by Baylor and Wichita State when it looks like no one is even trying or playing with intensity? No one is going to even want to come and play at Memphis. I love Josh Pastner as a human being, no doubt about that, he is one of the greatest human beings on this planet, but Memphis is just not the right job for him.

By year four, Joe gets benched again, A. Barton walks off the court in an exhibition game. Crawford and Thomas get suspended for being late for something. Tarik walks out then returns. Josh hold a press conference to announce Tarik is still on the team.

The team is locked out of the locker room. A loss at home to UTEP and the names are off the jerseys. He wins his first ever game vs. a T25 team then promptly gets run off the floor by MSU.

The loss to UTEP happened in year 3. Year 4, we started out slow, picked up steam through conference play, but we couldn't get a much needed win on the road against a not very good, but not all that bad Xavier team (RPI 95) in order to get a high enough seed to be favored to make a Sweet Sixteen.

Thanks. Some of that ish gets confusing. That was the year every player in CUSA was great and only Joe made 1st team. We joked that the Tigers could have had at least one more but Josh had hyped up the other players so much.

I'll cheer on the Memphis program and support the Memphis coach until he/she is no longer the Memphis coach.

unless you're an Ambassador who pays his salary, just enjoy the ride and cheer on your team.

Kind of hard to enjoy watching your team get the crap beat out of them in our own house.

By a team we should throttle.......

B/c he could be really successful here. Not gonna happen but just saying.

People don't like Pearl because he was the coach of UT during the time our two schools had the biggest basketball rivalry. They're unable to separate out their dislike of UT and UT fans from Pearl. He made some bad judgement but his violations are kiddie stuff, probably secondary violations if he doesn't panic and try to lie about it. He'd have just had to stop recruiting those players.

The whole sleazehog/sweathog stuff is ridiculous and overstated. People who profess to hate him would be eating out of his hand 10 games in.

^ This right here. We need to go after Pearl as soon as possible.

And year two. But even during that time, concerns started to pop up: Sallie has to leave because he can't be controlled, the benching of Joe, Spoon's tendinitis, the infighting between Murphy and Wilson. Some bad losses vs. SMU, Rice and ECU. Frank is hired to revolutionize conditioning.

By year three, the poor start in Maui wasn't great. Then Carmouche got tendinitis. Joe threatens to transfer. Simpson gets suspended. The DAP system is created. He decides he doesn't need a 3rd assistant. Then he brings in Walton. Then Williams. Murphy leaves. Damon comes in. CUSA is a great conference. We hear that over and over. Players mom's fight at the NCAA game.

By year four, Joe gets benched again, A. Barton walks off the court in an exhibition game. Crawford and Thomas get suspended for being late for something. Tarik walks out then returns. Josh hold a press conference to announce Tarik is still on the team.

Last year, high expectations. Gonna run and press. Senior guards and two competent post players. Some new recruits. Woodson stays home on the secret scrimmage to Baylor and is suspended various times in the season. Very little running and pressing. Early blowout loss then a "course correction." Then later (no joke) a "course correction to the course correction." The four guard thing is scrapped. Then it's the repeating mantra of "shots just need to fall."

There really doesn't seem to be a true understanding and communication of what is going on. He uses buzzwords that sound cute enough to the masses but don't ring true for those who want assurances that he REALLY knows how right a ship.

This year, the trip to Canada to build chemistry and experience. Lose to CBU and he says we need to work on picking up tempo. A week later, lose to WSU and maybe need to work on being more deliberate.

Players play out of position, players aren't recruited for the right positions. Substitution patterns are mid boggling at times and players roles are often poorly defined. Not calling timeouts. Calling them after made baskets. He runs around like a chicken with his head cut off on the sidelines, sometimes stomping, sometimes waving flashcards, often frustrated and ignored. Multiple coaches coaching at the same time, yelling at guys who just look confused as hell.

Wow awesome post

Yeah, great post Salukiblue.

For me this one sentence is the one single reason he will never be a good head coach.

"We didn't make shots"

Clueless.

Yep, and some didn't listen. I'm amazed at some on here who still think Josh is the man for the program. As a fine and good human being, none come better. As a coach, the man's a joke.

Forget the Index cards and the flashy flashness just go down throw it into the post and let the big men eat! Granted part of the problem is our guards can't dribble to get it there.

RE: Do you realize how hard it is to be this BAD at Memphis?
I hope all of you know that Duke, Kansas, NC and, even UK under Calipari, do not go to the NCAA Tourney every year. And, this is the first year Memphis is not considered a Top 25 team in preseason in a while. You all blowing one off season all out of proportion. Sure, Pastner needs to change and improve on things, but so does Coach K, Coach Cal, etc. every year. Coach Pastner has not gotten his fair share of Top 50 recruits the last couple of years and that is partly why the team is lacking. This years' team has a few more JUCOs, which to me is taking a big chance. And, you lose one year of decent development. JUCOs leave after two years and take one year to adjust. So, that leaves you only one productive year. But, if you recruit a HS player, you have one year of adjusting, and hopefully 3 years of production. Memphis needs to lower their amount of JUCOs, in my opinion, to help in the long term.

But, I am not happy with this years' performance, and I feel Coach Pastner needs to improve, but I do not feel Coach Pastner needs to be fired.
