Put me down for disappointed with recruiting so far. The Caver kid SOUNDS terrific; Talley SOUNDS like a terrific prospect. I'm always skeptical about 7-footers, so not going to pronounce on Pervier. Carver's hurt, apparently, so I'm going to presume he'll RS next year. Also agree that Jeff needs and deserves more time, and hoping like hell he comes through. . . .

I understand having a philosophy and sticking with it, but even the most dogmatic coach would have switched to a zone in a few of our losses. When we're getting fire-bombed like 1945 Tokyo, we've got to try something else. I just don't understand JJ's reluctance to switch it up. At the very least, it would disrupt the tempo of the other team.

The coach's show is tonight. I wish some of y'all with all these questions would call in ans actually ask him questions on his philosophy. If you don't want to call in email Ted and ask him to bring it up. I have called in this year but usually there is no or at the most 2-3 callers.

RE: Official I LOVE Jeff Jones Thread
I'm more than willing to give JJ some time in this job. He did an amazing job last year in my opinion with what he inherited and should finish this year with 20 wins or more. If you look at Coach K's record at Duke after moving form Army, he went 62 -57 I believe in his first 4 seasons before turning it around. I wonder how many Duke fans were calling for his head at the end of his 2nd year. I don't believe that we are a Duke or he is a Coach K, but he deserves some time and I like ( with a few questions) what I see so far. This is only my opinion of course.

That was 35 years ago. Things have changed a little. It is extremely rare these days for a coach to struggle for 4 years before turning things around. The recruiting climate just doesn't allow it. Record wise JJ has, in my opinion, gotten about what you would expect from his current players on the whole. But this year's team proved to be capable of more early, which makes the CUSA record a concern. He also has failed to improve upon recruiting thus far. I am certainly not saying that giving him 5 years is wrong, but if we are looking at the same product in year 5 that we are now, and we haven't won a conference title by then, it is time to move on. Of course that won't happen because people will continue to say he just needs more time, or he has done a pretty good job because they won 5 games one time the year before he arrived, or because it is always the players' fault that the team isn't where we want them to be, or because they talked to him at the ODAF event and he seemed smart and likable.

Jones has a number of things previous coaches did not have to help him elevate recruiting. A better campus and campus life, including football, the Ted is still great and a practice facility is on the way, CUSA affiliation (not the CAA) and very importantly.. he can legitimately claim we were (briefly) a top 25 team this year. If he can't capitalize on that and turn it into some good 3* level recruiting something is wrong. We don't want to waste that ranking and follow GMUs example. Go get em JJ. Show us you can do this.

They don't take questions with a negative spin.

Doesn't have to be negative. Common question on the board seems to be "why do we never give a zone look?" That is a neutral question - nothing negative about it.
Or this: "lately the offense has been stalling. What is different about the team we have watched over the last month from the team during November/December."
Again, neutral. Don't have to be negative to ask an informative question. That is just an excuse to continue to complain.

Actually when you call into the coaches' shows the only thing they ask is your first name and what city you're call from so they have know idea what you will ask.

I've never listen to a coach's show, so I don't know what a negative question entails, but if a control freak is handling the questions I could see them viewing both of those with a negative slant.

Monarx, I wouldn't count on the new practice facility, whenever it gets built, helping us all that much. Bout everybody has a good one now, VCU is building one that will make ours look tiny and at UCONN they are building one that will be three times larger then ours.

In the nuclear arms race that is college athletics, practice facilities have gone from being a luxury item owned by just a few of the rich, to being a bare bones necessity.

We will break ground in June. It will be a very nice addition to the Ted.

Yep, Tech built an 18 million dollar on a state of the art practice facility and haven't done anything on the court since it was built.

Maybe so, but our arena makes theirs look like a high school gym. But yeah, now is the time to elevate the amenities and look of the practice facility while we still can. I sure hope they make some improvements to the exterior. The drawings I saw looked very drab from the outside/street view.

Unless you seen something in the last 6 months it's very different. It will be a nice addition, next to the Ted (not joining as many hoped). The grocery list for this thing is done, no more additions while in detail design. With what we have to add in the next few years in sport upgrades, I think we did ok. The practice gym we currently have is very nice and is available to the guys who often play pickup games during the Summer. If the staff could pick it up and move it next to the Ted they would.
In my best Allen Iverson voice, "it's just practice".
The Ted sets us apart and this becomes part of the Ted Complex, very few have both side by side.

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway... why aren't we practicing primarily in the Ted? Every rim, backboard, and site line is different so why not get used to the rims, backboards, and site lines you are going to be playing with when it counts over half the time?
