RE: Attendance Saturday?
The one thing that might jump it up is that if you bought before today, you couldn't buy the best seats as they were held until 5:00pm yesterday. Some people may have waited to purchase, hoping for a better seat.

RE: Attendance Saturday?
ok, so i just went onto the jmu website to see what happens if i tried to order tickets.
if you go through as a non-season ticket holder and try to order tickets and choose the "let me pick my seats" option, you get almost no sections to choose from.
Only the student end zone and Sections 201, 404 and 408.
Now, i can't imagine all those other sections are sold out. not with a reported 10,000 sold, including liberty's block on the Godwin side.

How do we get to see how full the stadium is based on ticket sales?

I don't know what you guys are talking about...
I just logged into my account and can see seats available in almost every section. Granted in sections like 209 & 203 are low but there are still seats...

Thanksgiving is worse, but we would not likely sell out any home playoff game. People forget the national Semi Final at home in a much smaller stadium did not sell out until about 90 minutes before kickoff.

Actually in the past playoff games are the one time that attendance is under reported since the schools have to pay the NCAA....

that was my point.
you are logging into your account.
but if you Joe Fan who doesn't have season tickets, doesn't have a Duke Club account, and wants to come to this game, when you go through the process to buy tickets, it makes it seem like the only sections available are the student end zone and the very end sections by Plecker.
not exactly a true representation of what is available and may discourage someone (I'm not saying a lot of people! - but maybe some) from going through the process and getting tickets.
it's past the season ticket deadline. every available seat should be clear and open to all IMO

Maybe they figure that most of the people who are buying tickets but aren't in the Duke Club are probably Liberty fans so they want to stick them together in certain sections.

RE: Attendance Saturday?
Playing Devil's Advocate (no offense to LU) if I pay $1,500 for chair back seats for the season, obviously I expect to get those same seats for any/all playoff games. If I want to purchase additional seats equivalent to mine for the playoffs and some other season ticket holders don't purchase theirs for the playoff, I should be able to purchase those. But, should someone who hasn't given a dime to the Duke Club or someone who only gave $100 be able to purchase that level of seat? I am not sure about that one. On the one hand I want as many JMU fans there as possible; on the other it seems like I am getting screwed by having to pay the $1,500 if just anyone can have the same level seats. Same thing would go for parking. You wouldn't expect someone who hasn't given to the Duke Club to suddenly be able to get a Godwin parking spot.
That is what general admission seats are for. Johnny Come Lately's!

Don't think JMU would under report anything less than upper teens k since made supposedly such a huge bid.

RE: Attendance Saturday?
We have to pay them our bid. So, there is no way we will under report. I am sure CK would love to break even on this and not lose his butt. We will need every ticket possible sold to try to come out on this thing.

Ecstatic that we won the bid, but I mean why the overkill bid if you state its much higher than 150k rumors?
JB used to be on the committee, surely he knows the highest bids history. I know nothing of the process and intricacies, but i thought anything over 125k would be a high/winning bid.
So out of fear, we go way crazy with an irrational bid, now we lose money. Sounds like they knew liberty was going to be a huge factor, but sounds like their bid was much lower in the more reasonable/sane zone.
Would be interesting to know how much extra we make on the ancillaries, like concessions etc...
To me, the worst case scenario would have been liberty winning the bid, but if JB were able to say, JMU Nation, we bid the most a school has ever bid at 150k, at least we knew they were aggressive and learned from eku.

RE: Attendance Saturday?
It is all part of investing in building our brand. You hire a new coach because the program has become stagnant. We go 9-3 and are definitely going to be in the playoffs. You lost the last playoff bid to lowly EKU because their conference kicked in extra money, knowing the value of the exposure and to give their conference member home field advantage.
Bourne and King have been crucified over that for the last 3 years.
As part of the move to make our program a power again, a new coach is hired, a group of financial backers is formed named the Alpha Dogs, or something like that. They invest in our program and inject life into with new helmets. Additionally, we want to catch the attention of 1A conferences and showcase our commitment and the facility.
Throw into the equation that as the stars align, Liberty comes into the picture as a likely opponent. They have more money than ....., well, you know.
Can you imagine the dilemma that CK, Alger, JB and the Alpha Dogs are faced with. Can you imagine having to face the JMU Nation if we lose the bid? Our team deserves to have the home game as a reward for all of the hard work they have put in since January. Our fans deserve the home game for their support, (which is further exhibited by the generous donation of tickets for charity), the community deserves the home game. CK, JB, JA and others stepped up to the plate to ASSURE we would be hosting. God Bless them. I am eternally grateful. Happy Thanksgiving!
