I would think it will be around what Josh makes or a bit higher with the incentives and Bonuses.....General Justin Fuente really wants to stay and continue to Build This Program, and make it into something special, that even the Big 12 is beginning to take notice.....University of Memphis, Delta's Team....The World Is Ours Memphis....

The more interesting question imo will be the assistants increase.

Exactly.

When the previous administration kept quiet a lot of fans felt it was part of some master plan.

Truth had to hurt there!

If I recall correctly JF currently has a $1M contract but has a substantial bonus pkg, in excess of $700K (don't know the requirements to get it). If so his current salary is in the upper 25% of of the AAC but his bonus is up there with most SEC schools. That said, he deserves an appropriate salary increase but it wouldn't take more than $200-300K to get him in line with some high performing P5 schools. If a new contract comes, I'm guessing his bonus pkg decreases somewhat.

Keeping his assistants should be a major goal too, both for the university & JF. That will take some money, esp going to Odom.

CJF is currently #70.

I'm thinking his raise will be WELL more than 200-300K if we want to keep him in line with those P5 schools.

I'd like to settle him in somewhere between 1.75 and 2.00.

Go ahead and do a larger increase now, so you reduce (yeah right) the likelihood of having to "match" someone next year.

Ain't NOTHIN decreasing on a new deal (he'd be foolish to do that- even with bonuses)

You made me go find it to be sure about what I remember seeing, $1,006,779 & max bonus of $725,000 per recent USA published list.

If he is offered a $200-$300,000 raise, we will be looking for a new coach 07-coffee3

I've heard base in the $1.7M range w incentives that can get him up to around $2.7M total compensation.

Totally deserved, I forgot to say. Still, I'm confident he'll stay....hopefully until we join the Big 12 04-cheers04-rock I know....I know...I'm just saying.

The Memphis football job has been looked at over the years as a place where coaches go to kill their careers. If Coach Fuente moves on to a better job it will go a long way towards changing that perception. Perhaps it will be a little easier landing another quality coach.

You give him a raise for 2 reasons...

1 to try to keep him happy...
2 to try to get a decent buyout in case he leaves

High praise for Fuente. You would think the writer would realize this isn't our first year in the American though.

RE: Fuente
There are a few other attractive places that might go after Fuente when the season is over. Virginia Tech and Virginia are two ACC schools who might be looking for coaches after the season. Both have been underachieving for 3 or 4 consecutive years and fans are starting to grumble.
