Well said.

I'm with you. He did say though, that he was going to make some changes this year. Such as a longer leash on players instead of yanking them out. That did not show up in the cbu game. He also said that he would have to fight himself on the yanking of players after missed shots. Basically, he is saying his first thought or notion is to yank the player out and it's hard for him not to go through with wanting to actually pull the player after a mistake. That being said, since we haven't played a game yet, he still may be true to his word and coach differently this year. We will see Tue. Plus an added bonus is we will get to see Iverson and Hawkins.

"Dismissing Pastner solely because of the team's performance would be costly for the U of M. The Tigers would owe Pastner the balance of his contract — as many as four full seasons' salary, if he's dismissed before the date the contract automatically renews — if they wished to part with him."

"Pastner's contract is in effect for the next five seasons, through 2017-18. Automatic renewals are included after each of the next two seasons, meaning the deal is structured to extend through 2019-20."

Math: $2.65M x 4 = $10.6M ... still a chunk of change. Why smart, wealthy businessmen would do this is beyond me.

If they are smart and wealthy, they know what they are doing and how to analyze performance, unlike most on this board. The last time the geniuses on this board called for coaching changes, we ended up with tic price and Larry porter.

Your point is well taken ... they're certainly smarter than me. I guess with that sort of 100% guarantee, they must feel like he's the next Dean Smith or something.

No. What they do is evaluate performance based on merit, on goals that actually matter, and without emotion. Which is what everyone who has a boss would expect from their own performance review.

Here's the best analogy I can make; You are a salesman. Your performance is inline with expectations. Your real boss has given you merit raises. But someone else in the company has consistently, and with belligerent emotions, said that you were and continue to be a bad hire. Then one day you leave the office and fail to turn out the lights. Now those people who have been calling for your head are foaming at the mouth. "I can not believe he failed to do something as easy as turning out the lights!"

Then you remind those people that other great salesmen like Jim boeheim also failed to turn off the lights. And that the lights being left on really didnt matter when it came to your ultimate responsibilities, which is to make the sale.

This is essentially where we are at, because as far as what really matters, there is nothing that is putting Pastner on the hot seat at this time. If he fails to make the tournament, the the heat will start to turn up. If the only wins 5 games, the there will be some serious heat. But let's see what actually happens first.

So am I. A few positives for Tue. are Nichols and Shaq looked pretty good at least on the offensive side and both Iverson and Hawkins should play.

Actually, the same "buyout" argument was being made by those wanting to hold onto Porter. A bad hire is a bad hire and it's often more costly to hold onto the wrong guy than to pay him and move on.

I don't know if he will ever be a great basketball coach, but he is a great person, a great role model, a great leader in these young men's lives, and I am proud he represents the university that I graduated from. I wouldn't be distraught, but I would be terribly disappointed.

I hope Josh stays another 30 years. I'd be very disappointed in the University if they got rid of him.

Well, I guess if he is here that long he would have done some very awesome things
