If we run the conference slate in the Belt, and pull off 2 more plays, we are the top ranked G5 program, and if we had been bowl eligible, would have had a good shot at the access bowl. Being in the AAC would not have changed that at all.
All of the G5 conferences have the same perception to every casual college football fan, and every p5 school fan, with the exception of 1 or 2 teams. Moving from 1 G5 conference to the next does ZERO to gain recognition from a football perspective. And if you think otherwise, you are fooling yourself.
Don't flattered yourself, dude... Georgia Southern isn't AAC material.
Did I say we were?
Of course you didn't... Being in the Belt will give you more football recognition

The problem is that you're in a conference that only has some relevance for part of the year (similar to the new Big East). The only non-P5 conferences that give you that year-round exposure are the AAC and MWC.
In regards to "exposure". Tell me one team in thhe aac that has gotten a high level of attention outside of ECU?
And I ask this knowing that I would love for GS to accomplish anything close to ECU.
SMU has gotten more "exposure" than most teams in the conference this year because they have sucked as bad as they have. No smack intended, just the facts.
Exactly how many football games have been aired on ESPN networks in relation to Sunbelt vs AAC? Don't even get me started on basketball games....
In terms of football strength...to each their own. If you're looking at year round exposure (both in football and basketball)...come on now...If you don't think Georgia Southern would leave in a heartbeat to join the AAC then you are only fooling yourself..

How do they not fit? Let's look at the AAC teams:
1) they are at least the 3rd or 4th most popular school in their state, check!
2) they play near Atlanta, and can deliver viewers, just like the AAC teams, check!
3) they have a crappy TV contract, check!
4) nobody knows who their opponents are, check?
5) they conference has no traditional geographic rivals, check?
6) if they go undefeated they still have no chance at playing for a National Championship, check!
Seems like they check all the boxes, great fit. Welcome aboard!
Remember way back when the not-yet-named AAC was actually picking at MWC possibilities and that football powerhouse UNLV became a lauded over possibility somehow? Exactly. These things work in a ghastly way sometimes.

They've got a hell of a team, but I want to see how they handle Texas State in San Marcos before I'm ready to crown them kings of the league for this year.
Right. Because we're really worried that a team that beat Florida last season (as bad as they were, they were still better than any Sun Belt team, player vs player) and is a year better and a level higher (you know, more schollies and whatnot) is going to get beat down by ULaLa and Arky State?
LULZ.
Don't get me wrong. Eagle U won't run for 613 yards every week, but I doubt they will be asking for a ticket back to the SoCon by season's end.

Except better competition, but besides that you are correct.
I GS were to move, they would bring "better competition" to whatever league they moved to. It's a win win, but not likely for a while.
