RE: Georgia Southern
They aren't bowl eligible but they are damn close to being undefeated. Would be interesting if they were and were the highest ranked G5 team what would have happened. That's a really good football team.

GS is having a remarkable first season. They also don't play Louisiana and Arkansas State.

They should lose to Navy. It's a decent first run at FBS but so far they've not measured up to the real obstacles on their schedule. Even still looking at a shot at a 3 loss season 1 year into FBS is pretty impressive.

RE: Georgia Southern
It's ironic that this thread was posted, because I just looked up the scores from the Thurs night games, and I went woah GSU is 7-2? Looked up their schedule. They haven't beaten anyone of real consequence but they have looked good winning and when they played NC St and GTech, they played them right down to the wire. Impressive for sure. Hats off to a good season for them.
All that said, not sure why people are talking about inviting them. You don't build a conference by making decisions on short term stuff like that.

Nope, but it would not surprise me in the least if they become a consistent power in the Sun-Belt and make a few real runs at the access bowls in the future. They have a proven history of winning over decades and multiple coaching staffs.

RE: Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern and Appalachian State were great additions to the Sun Belt, IMO, even though Appy is down right now. They didn't get promoted based on markets, just on years of winning and putting 20,000 fans in the stands.
That said, the AAC doesn't need to add any teams right now unless they add to our media deal.

RE: Georgia Southern
Ga Southern will end up being a lot like Southern Miss has been until their recent troubles. A very good team in their conference that might upset a P5 team, but probably does not have the resources to compete at a higher level. They simply have a tradition of winning, and I think they'll be very good in the Sun Belt, could probably do well in CUSA, but I'm not sure they have the institutional resources nor the boosters and fans to compete financially in the AAC.

GS did a phenomenal preparation job for the move. I believe they redshirted several non freshmen last year to get ready. They scheduled very beatable OOC opponents in NCState, GT and Navy and the as already mentioned they didnt have to play Louisiana or Arkansas State. Add to that playing 5 recent FBS move ups plus Idaho in conference play.

GS may be playing their way to a CUSA bid.
I can't see them in the AAC under any circumstances. Georgia State maybe if they can develop because of their market and academics.

You'll have to wait a decade or two, but Georgia State is destined for something much bigger than the Sun Belt.

I agree with your statement. Right now, 3/4 of our team consists of FCS-caliber players and though we are still getting used to FBS-level teams on a week-to-week basis, we are chugging along like we have for 33 years. We've had 3 bad years (sub .500) during that time and it was long past time to matchup on this level. Even though it is somewhat flattering to be a topic of discussion as a possible addition (though the unfavorable views outweigh the favorable by a wide margin), we can accomplish the same goals in any conference. The only difference is the quality of its conference mates. I don't really appreciate the snide comments about the quality of education from our institution, it's so low-class P5ish. As far as your idiot cousin, I'm sure it runs in the family.
The truth is the vast majority of your schools will never receive a P5 invite yet you possess the same arrogant, condescending attitude that you accuse the P5 of having. I hope the future for G5 is brighter than how it appears at the moment. However, GS is happy to be at this level, certainly more worthy than at least 1/4 of the long-standing FBS teams. Only time will tell if we are a 'flash in the pan' or the real deal. Imagine what we would be like with a team full of FBS-caliber players. BTW, a previous poster hit the nail on the head: We've been successful for 30 out of 33 years and we've done it under more than one head coach. Sometimes it's the coach or maybe the school brings out the best in a coach.

What's next, is Troy unavailable (they have had sustained success at this level and had some big wins after being an FCS power)?

You could get UConn to leave if you take in Georgia Southern, Troy, and other "academic" institutions like them.
SMU, Tulane, Navy, and Tulsa may also leave.

Don't worry, unlike Georgia State, I seriously doubt that you'll see Georgia Southern actively lobby to get into the AAC, MWC or C-USA. We can be just as successful at the SunBelt. However, if you wish to take Georgia State, I doubt one school in the SunBelt would protest.
