Nope. You can't have Lincoln.

Haha... but seriously, I wouldn't blame him if he took the job, if offered. HC has been his goal all along. You're screwed if you ever play a Bud Foster D, though. That man has Lincoln's #.

Coker's track record at Miami and UTSA .... just sayin, he's no chump change...

Larry Coker would be a good fit at SMU but it's not happening. He's not leaving UTSA for a pay raise and lateral move. Now if a P5 school came calling he probably would think about it a bit more.

It would be a big pay raise, and the league is an upgrade.
He's on the verge of taking a program from nothing to possible conference championship/bowl win. Why give that up start over at SMU? Money? At this point in his life he has money. I'd say building a legacy is higher on the priority list.

Now if SMU were to pull it off they'd have the best 80+ yr coaching duo in the nation. LB holding down the basketball court and LC taking them to bowl games.

More money, better league and team plays on National TV, how can UTSA compete with this? UTSA will be hurting for several years as they try to replace all of those Seniors. I have no idea if SMU is interested in Coker, but no way SMU is a lateral move for him.

But let's tap the brakes. No one from SMU wants Coker, period. So rest easy UTSA'ers (sory, I don't know what your mascot is).

And to say it would be a lateral move is just plain ridiculous. What do you pay your coach? What is your athletic budget? Do you have an on-campus stadium? Heisman winner? National Championships? I could go on and on, but I have no need.

You can add the football death penalty to your list. That beautiful on-campus stadium never housed more than 17k last year and against Montana did you even break 10k?

Will LC go to SMU? probably not but to think SMU is equal to a P5 job is crazy.

All those SRs that UTSA has this year are FCS talent. Coker coached them to their max potential and has them competing. I'm certain that means a hellava lot to an old fart like him. Next year won't be a fall off year as the talent level at 2 and 3 are legit D1 and have greater ceilings.

SMU... whatever entity is responsible for creating this level of fanatical belief amongst UTSA's fanbase, you need them. AD, Coach, marketing dept.... hire them away.

Ha, ha, very true. But don't forget, UTSA has the Sinclair Network! We all just need to give up now. Remember these two words, Sinclair Network. Game over AAC.

Absurd, if SMU wanted Coker they could get him, the guy would be more than doubling his salary. Some fans are just so delusional.

I'm sure Lincoln has learned a few things about program admin and the head coaching position from Ruff, but um, really? He may do well you never know. But that seems like a real risk to me, and he's our OC so I'm a fan. Just would seem very risky at this point in his career and for SMU coming out of the downturn that June left you guys in.

Coker is like Frank Solich at Ohio... Neither are leaving for anywhere. This is their gig until retirement or death.

RE: Fox Sports: SMU Coaching Candidates
I'm going to toss a name, and I am sincerely curious.. (because I grew up in Denver, Colorado, and I've always liked the guy...)

Gary Kubiak (former HC, Houston Texans)
-NFL connections, "name" coach
-Known in Texas
-Quality pedigree in developing QB's
-Relatively young (though that fainting thing last season is of concern...)
-Could be on-board quickly and start recruiting THIS season, even if an "interim" coach is retained for this season.

Like I said, I am just curious as to the reaction. I know he's not on the "radar screen" at this point.

I've seen Kubiak's name mentioned elsewhere. Not sure how I feel about it

I know all his ties are in the midwest and northeast, but any team that does not give a serious look to Pat Narduzzi is making a mistake.

I agree whole-heartedly with this. The only caveat I would have is that I'm not sure Narduzzi is looking for an "outside" the P5 type job. I could easily see him waiting to see if the Iowa or even the Michigan jobs come open.

But definitely worth a look.

I don't know if he is the world's worst interview or what, but the fact that he is still a coordinator is baffling.

I don't know either, but it could just as easily be that he knows that he'll get a shot at a quality job and is willing to wait on it.

I never did hear what happened definitively with UConn... It looked like he was going to be the HC there, but one--or both--parties moved away from that one.

if it is one thing we can guarantee, this coach and his staff will have strong ties to Texas high schools. We have tried the other and it doesn't work.

Here's a name that could become hotter as the season goes on, K.C. Keeler. He had great success at Rowan University and the University of Delaware. He landed at Sam Houston State this year and, I think, will have a good season in the Southland once all of his transfers settle in.

Has the AD or University Pres said anything about timeline? Are they looking to hire soon before the end of the season / get a jump on recruiting OR will the hire be after seasons end?

Source tells me talked w/ #Clemson OC Chad Morris and A&M's David Beaty; both "very interested" in the SMU vacancy, have local ties. #GigEm

It will be Chad Morris.

Its a perfect job for him.

Tulsa chose Bill Blankenship over Chad Morris in 2011.

So wrong.
