SMU has 2 million plus dollars to offer a new coach. They will get someone good.

Coker's track record at Miami and UTSA .... just sayin, he's no chump change...

Larry Coker would be a good fit at SMU but it's not happening. He's not leaving UTSA for a pay raise and lateral move. Now if a P5 school came calling he probably would think about it a bit more.

I can't see anything happening until December

I would certainly think so, unless you are going after someone currently out of coaching and sitting on their couch.

I feel like a school that can afford a higher salary should avoid first-time coaches and find somebody that has experience running a program.

I don't know either, but it could just as easily be that he knows that he'll get a shot at a quality job and is willing to wait on it.

I never did hear what happened definitively with UConn... It looked like he was going to be the HC there, but one--or both--parties moved away from that one.

I believe it was based on staff salaries. He wanted more of an investment than UConn was willing to give. Narduzzi has been with Dantonio for almost a decade and saw what happened to Treadwell at Miami Ohio who left as offensive coordinator at MSU and is now a lowly running backs coach at Toledo. Many claim that he doesn't want to make the same mistake so he will be picky in his job and rightfully so, MSU pays him a ton of money and they're successful.

If they throw "june type" money at him, I bet he would jump...he's got UTSA up and running, and that's what he was brought in to do.

I agree 100%. The best way to go. Even at the FCS level. Are there any proven/youngish FCS coaches out there with good Texas ties?

Doubt Coker leaves UTSA given his current setup there and age.

Doubt SMU hires him given his current age.

Isn't UTSA only paying about $450K a year? Its not like Coker loses his set up. All his local Texas recruiting ties he has built will still be just as viable at SMU. Truth be told--this would be a great time to leave UTSA. He built the program, led it to success, and will likely take UTSA to their first ever bowl. He will make history. Next year he loses 39 seniors and 21 of 22 starters on offense and defense who have played together building chemistry for 4 consecutive years. Sounds like the perfect time to get the hell out of Dodge and go cash a nice paycheck at SMU. He is going to be rebuilding either way.

As I mentioned earlier, Sam Houston State coach K.C. Keeler won a FCS title at Delaware in 2003 and lost the title to EWU in 2010.....

He'll be 67 when he starts the rebuild.

However they did hire Larry Brown so not totally ruling it out. I just doubt the hire.

Doesnt make any difference. They play in front of 100 fans, and its career suicide.

I don't think anyone knows the definitive reasons Narduzzi didn't end up in CT, but I would be surprised if coaching salaries were the real reason (it seemed like that came up at the end). From what I understand (I can't find the hard facts right now), we have pumped up assistant salaries towards the very top of the league. What I have heard is that Narduzzi is "cozy" in East Lansing as an assistant and may not really be a viable HC candidate elsewhere. Time will tell though. The guy knows football and would be a great get if he can be convinced to leave MSU.

People told Russ Huesman he was committing career suicide when Rick Hart hired him at Chattanooga. Up and comer is not surprising at all from him. Look for coordinators from power conference teams or if all else fails, a young HC from the FCS ranks.
