Get real ask 100 average BCS football fans not from the state of N.C. who has the best football APP or Charlotte and I bet bet 60+ % would say Charlotte . They would have said it 3 years ago when Charlotte didn't even have a football program. And it would probably be 50-50 in the state of N.C.

People have heard the name "Charlotte" and associate it with a large city so they are better ...Appalachian St. doesn't. That's how well the average fan knows football. Other than their own team and maybe, just maybe their conference...

the average fan knows very little and they probably don't know much about their own team or conference. The average fan makes up about 80% (just a guess but a safe one) of sports fans...

we are the 20% and a big part of that 20% is close in knowledge to the average fan.

But let me put this another way...

in the last 40 year history (did not go back any farther) of the teams in the SBC...

this is the first time UL-L and Ark St has won 7 or more games 3 years in a row. Western did it in the first 5 years of FBS football.

I heard that they did get an invite to a bowl that season, but turned it down. They decided bowling at the local bowling alley was more prestigious for them.

To be truthful...there has not been a single mention of it. Considering that our Chancellor, AD, and President are all good friends...and both the Chancellor and President foam at the mouth every time they talk about how great of an AD they have...you wont see any worries about it.

One thing some of our former friends over here from the SBC Might remember is that the world works very differently in Jonesboro. We're in a dry county. Arkansas State is seen as the major event in town. Our only competition comes from an in state school 5 hours away that doesn't officially recognize our existence, and outside of a Memphis team that we have beaten a ton in recent history, we have zero competition at the G5 level. There is no stream of consciousness about any G5 league outside of the SBC, nor P5 league outside of the SEC.

Sure...like any fan base we hate our commissioner, hate all of our rivals, and dream of beating the major in state school. But the reality is, there is no pressure to move here. We don't gain anything exposure wise locally by a move because CUSA has zero exposure in Arkansas. There is no certain increase in ticket sales. No certain increase in a donor base. It would be sort of a blah...aint this exactly like the Sun Belt type of reaction.

App State has a great fan base and are well known in North Carolina. You have no idea what you are talking about here. Charlotte is known for their basketball in North Carolina not football.

And of course you would be right if we are talking about the hard core fans. But the average fan doesn't know Charlotte just started playing football...

The reality is...because until last year we had a policy of playing 2 money games per year, and we had a regular series with Memphis, we never actually had a chance to play a top G5 program, and only one of our P5 games in that stretch was a team that wasn't either Top 25 at the time, or finished that way.

We didn't have the luxury of two games against Kentucky, unfortunately because our SEC Weakling on the other side of the state wont play us. Its a luxury you guys have, and full credit for doing well with it.
