[split] Herd fans talks Rice Attendance
Make sure you don't forget to adjust 98% off of rice's reported numbers of tickets sold to get real attendance.

You should win a conference title, or really, do anything at all of consequence in conference play before bringing out the smack. Though I suppose your metrics might be a good thing for Marshall anyway, as that would mean only 404 people got to witness that double digit beatdown.

Sticks and stones, my green friend.

For what it's worth, our AD wants to try to triple our season ticket holders over the next couple of years. String together some winning seasons, some improvements to the stadium, and a half-decent marketing department and our numbers should hopefully come up.

Still crying over 2013?

The whole conference is crying and hurt over 2013. Hard to play well in a championship game when it feels like a practice. Rice should be ashamed of itself. No football programs stadium in America, even on the lowest levels, even high school, should look like this in a championship game. You are an embarrassment to cusa and your very talented football team. Its a shame those kids played ao well and have suh garbage support from people there. This was about 8 minutes til kickoff.

I completely understand your point, but I'm not sure this picture is a fair representation. You do state, in fairness, that this is about 8 minutes to kickoff, as evidenced by the lack of teams on the field and the band coming on for the Star Spangled banner.

Yet, official attendance is 20,247, which is still going to look puny in Rice Stadium, but is better than the official attendance the preceding year, when 17,635 was announced for Tulsa-UCF, in Tulsa.

Average attendance for all C-USA conference championship games was 34,350, but that 9 year record is heavily influenced by the three years the game was played in Orlando, with an average of 45,717 in that city.

I have to think that if the game was played at Marshall, North Texas, Southern Miss, or any number of other stadiums, the attendance would be at the more normal number of 30,000+, which is what it is if you exclude Orlando. Whenever the game was in Tulsa, the biggest crowd they had is 22,000.

But I do understand your point. the only reason I can think of is that Houston is really not a Rice town (too many other options) and Rice's alumni is spread out all over the country, probably more so than other C-USA schools.

No apologies. The temperature was in the low 30s and the wind was howling through the stadium at 10:52 am. The 20,000 fans were keeping warm until kick-off. They came in numbers greater than the all-now-AAC championship game played the year before in Tulsa.

Want to host in 2014? Take care of business during the regular season. Rice is determined to defend our championship trophy.

It has been brought to my attention though that Rice's official attendance numbers just never seem to match actual butts in seats. From looking at that pic about 8 minutes before kickoff, I have a hard time believing 20.2K actually showed.

I can promise you that if UTEP ever fixes the football program and gets to host the championship game there will be at least 50k in the Sun Bowl.

i am sure the butts-in-seats were less than the 20.2K and more than the 404 you claim.

usually any discrepancy from tickets sold is mostly season ticket holders not attending. at least we sold the season tix. attendance can be affected by opponent, weather, opponent, time of season, and opponent.

as is always the case, the pictureis primarily of the visitorside. some schools bringmore than others. None bring as much as they think they do.

I know we only have attendance at the rate of about six times the size of the student body, and we will have to do better to catch up to the others, who routinely draw crowds of 10x or 20X the student enrollment, but we will have to draw most of the increase from the population other than students, so winning will have to be the first step to putting butts in seats.

Bring a lot of butts to the game this year and take another picture.

RE: C-USA Attendance
It's never fair to go by a random photo and an estimate on when the photo was taken. A Memphis fan took a photo of The Don and claimed it was at tip off of the 2011 CUSA hoops tourney. Like the above photo, the people on the filed/court did not even come close to matching the time they claimed it was taken. Then there is the estimates from online fans basing everything off of one photo and what they think the stadium looks like.

I guess the sarcasm was lost on the math-challenged.
