It was the inability to close that game out, not Texas Southern, that cost us.
Agree-100%. I always thought that if we had gotten throught that regional, our pitching would have gotten us to the CWS final because of the format-best of 3 at home super, every other day in Omaha). We just didn't have the depth to play 5 games in 3 days. Though let's not forget that we lost Lance Pendleton during practice that week-our best hitter that year and Chris Kohlkorst, second best, during the TSU game.
And we almost made it anyway....
Baker was money.

RE: Super Regional Thread
TCU just saved their season by scoring 2 in T9 against Pepperdine. They now lead 6-5 heading to B9 in Game 3.

Sign behind the plate @TCU: #ToadToOmaha
Indeed. After their stunning 2-run comeback in T9 (featuring a tough infield single, a clutch RBI double and a perfectly executed suicide squeeze), in B9 the Frog closer battles Vanegas Disease (can't throw strikes: he gave up two walks) to strike out a catatonic Langlois with runners at the corners to give TCU the 6-5 win ... with the Waves' All-Everything star Aaron Brown stranded on deck.

UVA hammering Maryland 6-0, B5; starter Josh Sborz is getting his pitch count up otherwise he is mowing 'em down.

Looks like Ole Miss completes the octet. Three outs to go and a 6 run lead.

The Cajuns are trailing 10-4 in the bottom of the 9th.
It's got to be those stupid uniforms.
BTW Old Miss hasn't been to Omaha since 1972!
That makes me feel just a little better.
After all, Rice was there as recently as 2008.

RE: Super Regional Thread
Here's a random fun fact: the last time Ole Miss went to Omaha, they were coached by Jake Gibbs, who QB'd Ole Miss against Rice in the 1961 Sugar Bowl.

I guess the Mississippi State fans in OMAHA will have to hide their sign for a while -- for years they've had a banner reading Ole Miss At Home Again...

Beat Mississippi State in those UNI's to win the Regional so you know the team would wear them for the last game......they are awful....we ran out of pitching....great year though....good luck to the Owls starting this Fall.

By all accounts, it was a great atmosphere for the games. I remember playing ULaLa in the very first Super Regional at the Astrodome about 15 years ago, and IIRC, that was a good atmosphere too, if too cavernous for the college game...
