Or does this only apply in SRs where two non-#1 seeds of equal seeding meet (because in all other situations you can go on seeding)?

It's a great advantage to be home in game 1, win or lose, imo. Win and you've got final at bat to close it out in 2. Lose and you have final at bat to defend.

I believe it is due to equal seeding.

I also wonder if Mike Taylor won the coin toss. He is the luckiest dude ever in coin tosses...

Indeed it is:

NCAA Postseason Host Operations Manual Wrote:HOME TEAM – SUPER REGIONALS
• Two Teams Advancing With Different Regional Seeds. For Game One, the higher seed will be the home team.
The lower seed will be the home team in Game Two. A coin flip will determine the home team in Game Three,
if necessary. This coin flip must take place during the pre-tournament meeting and the higher seeded team can
determine whether they will call the coin toss, or defer the call to their opponent.

[Note: A national seed (seeded No. 1 to No. 8 nationally) is considered a higher seed than a regular Number 1
seed.]

• Two Teams Advancing With Equal Regional Seeds. For Game One, the winner of a coin flip will be the home
team. The loser of the coin flip will be the home team in Game Two. A second coin flip will determine the
home team in Game Three, if necessary. These coin flips must take place during the pre-tournament meeting.
The visiting team will call the coin toss for Game One, while the home team will call the coin toss for Game
Three or defer the call to their opponent.

Texas Tech throws a 4 hitter at College of Charleston. Tech wins first game 1-0. Lots of ups and downs in the game. And some great defense by both teams.

The Tech series is in Lubbock.

Maryland beats Virginia 5-4 in their first game. Hard to believe that Maryland almost lost its first postseason game (to ODU - and they would have lost had the ODU reliever not blown up in the 9th).

UH down 4-0 to Texas in the 5th. They shouldn't have started Garza.....

Is the Texas team douchey with every opponent they play? Through he regional and SR, they've been super douchey.

ETA: Parker French seems to lead that parade.

RE: Super Regional Thread
Texas wins 4-0. No dogpile.

Good season for UH and I'd certainly rank them higher in the preseason next year than Rice.

But I don't want to see UH fans coming here to complain again about the hosting situation. Yes it sucked for them but we've gone through that in the past too (including last year when we beat Oregon and then had to go to NC State). They didn't compete all that great in Austin, but I do think their constant road trips finally caught up to their bats.

Watching ULL/Mississippi and I'm struck by two things:

1. That atmosphere in Lafayette is insane. It's more NASCAR race than baseball game. They have people sitting outside the stadium watching the game at tailgates, they have people sitting on rooftops beyond the outfield walls, and they have others watching from atop RVs. Just nuts.

2. It's so rare now to see a team that has power up and down the lineup that it almost seems like ULL is playing a different game than everyone else. They have two home runs today, both were absolute bombs, and one came off the bat of a hitter who was waaaayyy out on his front foot. I'm just not conditioned to seeing that kind of stuff anymore, so it's almost jarring to watch.

That's what they say on the outside, but what are they really? I'm sorry, but anything way outside the norm should be questioned. Maybe it's legit, but I've got my questions. And it may be not just the bat.

If they've figured out a way to do it legitimately, great for them. I just think the question has to be asked. (And honestly, I hope it's legit.)

RE: Super Regional Thread
It's looking like a nightmare ending to Stanford's run. Vandy scored 5 in T1 and 4 in T7 ... and just now in T8 with runners at the corners and no outs, an in-time pickoff-at-first throw eludes the first baseman, allowing a run to score. The ball bounses into a no-man's land between first, second and RF .. and the runner keeps running toward third. A just-in-time throw from the 2nd-baseman shorthops Blandini (Stanford's star 3rd-baseman) and bounces not very far away toward the wall. After thinking about it for a second, the runner bolts for home, and Blandini's just-in-time throw is up the line a bit and the catcher didn't snag it. Two runs scored on a pickoff play! Vandy's up 12-5. Wow!

Tech pitchers' scoreless string now at 37 innings, dating back to the regional opener last Friday. Amazing. Of course, they were just saved by a game-saving defensive play in the OF.

Sorry, Walt. I gave erroneous info. Tech leads... at this point.
I'm traveling and don't have access to TV. getting info relayed from a friend at the game.

No prob, I had already corrected it after seeing tweets from Kendall, Fitts and others.

In this case, I'd say it's appropriate as Vandy FINALLY got over the hump and made it to Omaha for the very first time. They've been elite level since 2008, so it's long overdue.
