RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
Western Michigan is doing an amazing job with the new coaching staff this season with 4 players ranked in the Top 60. They are also doing a good job of beating out in-state rival CMU for talent.
BG and Ohio are coming out on top in most of their MAC recruiting battles.

We're now inside 9 months away from 'verbals' actually meaning anything when the pen hits the paper...

Does it really matter at this point of the year? If the kid is all that great on paper today then he'll certainly still be open to being poached by the big boys and they certainly come after them. Usually at this point of the offseason Temple had between 26-38 verbals on their way to 42 LOIs being signed and that brought them nothing as far as titles over the past decade.

Quote:The 6-foot-3, 297-pound Barron chose the Bobcats over offers from Ball State and UMass.
“When I visited there, it was definitely just the mental attitude they have around the program is that we’re going to line up and maul the people in front of us as an offensive line group,” Barron said.
“What Coach (Frank) Solich said is we have an awesome recruiting class and it’s going to keep growing and growing. The players there are first to none and the coaches there are better than ever.”
Barron is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 17 center.

Another big pickup by Ohio.
Frank is scooping up all the best MAC level players in OH, KY, IN this season, IMO.

That's easy enough to do.
So far the trends are that BG and Ohio are keeping Ball St and Buffalo away from their recruits while WMU has tilted the playing field against CMU in Michigan.
The BG program has a lot of momentum coming off a nice year and while they didn't win their bowl game against a Top 25 team they were competitive.
I haven't seen much of the Miami program on the recruiting trail. In past years they've been one of the early ones to get going along with CMU. The fact that Ohio has been early to fill its class the last couple of years shows they are becoming more of a destination school than an outpost.
Buffalo is a classic example of an outpost where they can pull together a decent MAC class by finding diamonds in the rough but rarely win the big MAC recruiting battles. Ohio's program under Knorr was more like this and they converted a track star Scott Mayle into WR.
Solich built Ohio upfront first and relied on JUCO QB's before he could sign the high level MAC QB recruits.

WHAT?!? A college coach telling a recruit that he has a great recruiting class?!? I've NEVER heard a coach say that before!

I just think its funny myself because its the first time I've seen a Solich sales pitch before.
The coaches are better than ever doesn't say much as they could have been completely terrible before.....

I'm pretty sure NIU has gotten the best returns on Indiana talent the last 5 years. But you keep pumping yourself up. NIU has a recruiting advantage of being the furthest west team. States like Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin who have 1 or 2 bcs schools is nicer than competing in Ohio for talent.
NIU is trying to make inroads in Alabama...
