Gentlemen,
Eastern picked up its first verbal from Clarkston High School; Ian Eriksen, running back, All-State junior year, 4.5 speed.

Quote:In giving his verbal commitment to the Flashes, Ritz picked Kent State over other suitors including Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo and a handful of Ivy League schools that fancied his athletic ability and his 4.2 grade-point average.

After dropping by Kent's campus last week to take a look at the academic side of things — Ritz plans a major in biotechnology — the massive offensive lineman made his choice to join Coach Paul Haynes' program.

"I'm definitely looking forward to joining the Flashes," Ritz said. "Kent was the best fit for me academically and athletically."

Guys, can we refrain from using 'signed' (or 'signing', etc.) when the real term is 'verbal' or 'verbal commitment'.

Recruits can not sign until a signing period (in FB, the 2nd Wednesday of Feb. except for some JUCOs who are eligible to transfer after the December semester is complete.).

And, of course, the difference between 'verbal' and 'signing' is legally very, very significant.

A verbal is non-binding. Signing a NLI (national letter of intent) is binding.

What's going on over at WMU?!?! Over at the AAC site, Temple is celebrating its recruiting (verbals) class, but WMU looks to have them beat in numbers of 3-stars.

I hadn't previously confused Kalamazoo for Gainesville. How are you doing it? Should Toledo and Central Michigan be calling the Infractions Committee yet?

Toledo only has 12-16 scholarships to give out this year. So they really can't go after everyone.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
WMU has fine facilities to sell recruits on, Fleck is using that to his advantage. When the new IPF is complete in DeKalb, whoever is the HC at that time will be able to sell NIU's facilities as a significant asset to recruits which is an enormous turnaround in just the last 5 years.

Many MAC programs have newer and frankly better athletic facilities than a number of AQ programs and those that do (Toledo, Kent, CMU, WMU & NIU) will be reaping the recruiting rewards of that expansion

Kent? Ohio is the one building a new IPF.

Kent already has an IPF we don't need to build another one.

Akron is still recruiting for 2013. Reports out of Australia are saying we signed an Aussie punter who will come in and play this year.

WMU actually is nationally ranked, in large part, because of the number of recruits and the strength of the class. (WMU will fall as bigger programs add more and more recruits, but WMU has gone out early and hard).

I believe schollies are 25. Grey shirts, non-qualifiers, decommits-it's like overbooking for the airlines.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
The commits at this point are not really commits, they are verbals. They will loose some to larger programs so they over offer.
