RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
To me the rankings are like teacher evaluations. They do a good job of picking out the really good or really bad but have a hard time sorting out the 80% in the middle. Although, player rankings don't really focus on those at the bottom.

One thing I find puzzling is the EMU 4* QB and WMU 3/4* QB. The EMU commit has 5 or 6 total offers and no BCS while WMU's has 3 or 4 total offers with 2 BCS. Seems like they should have more if they are that highly rated.

In the end, I'd take a class full of 3 stars over 2 stars (default for all D-1 offers). WMU has a good class coming in if they can keep them together.

Recruiting rankings might have a little merit to them.... 05-stirthepot

Edit: here's the link.

UMass was still FCS 1-AA in 2009.

So you can't really compare the two.

Why does that make you mad? Who cares?

It's just annoying how recruiting services try and down play non-AQ commits, while playing up AQ recruits big time.
And yet you still think recruiting rankings mean anything. They don't.

All that 2007 class did was take us to 2 straight MAC Championships (and should've won two straight MAC Championships Epic Rage) and win back to back MAC MVP Awards.

Not to bad for the 115th ranked recruiting class.

Yes, 2007 was arguably our best class ever. I would take another 115th just like it.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
Seems like our recruiting rankings depend on what we did the year before. Up until 2012.

7-6 = 115
2-10 = 119
6-7 = 91
7-6 = 83
11-3 = 78
11-3 = 95

I didn't put 2012 since I don't know what this year's recruiting ranking is. We'll see I guess.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
Of course, there is more to a team than their senior class. When you look at the rankings as a whole for NIU compared to the rest of the MAC, they haven't been all that bad outside of '08 and '13, which isn't obviously contributing yet.

2008- 12th
2009- 7th
2010- 2nd
2011- 2nd
2012- 4th

They're still an outlier ranking 5th in the conference in recruiting over that period while being clearly the best team. But in general the teams towards the top have been Toledo, KSU, NIU and Ohio. WMU has underperformed a bit looking strictly at their recruiting.

Akron picked up a 3* defensive lineman from Pennsylvania yesterday. Picked the Zips over offers from Pitt, UConn, and Maryland.

Seems like Bowden is doing a good job recruiting. Not too surprised.

Flashes sign 6'5" 285 lb. Willoughby South OT.

Quote:In giving his verbal commitment to the Flashes, Ritz picked Kent State over other suitors including Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo and a handful of Ivy League schools that fancied his athletic ability and his 4.2 grade-point average.

After dropping by Kent's campus last week to take a look at the academic side of things — Ritz plans a major in biotechnology — the massive offensive lineman made his choice to join Coach Paul Haynes' program.

"I'm definitely looking forward to joining the Flashes," Ritz said. "Kent was the best fit for me academically and athletically."

If the choices are Akron, Toledo and BG academics or Ivy League football he's probably right picking Kent State.

And the troll/tool/dbag/idiot/etc. strikes again. I wonder why he didn't even list Ohio at all?

Notre Dame WR transfer Justin Ferguson has committed to WMU.

Rated as #85 player nationally and 14th-best wide receiver in the country on 2012 ESPNU 150 list.
