JD.. The writer of the passages in the New Testament you pointed out was Paul.
Paul was a converted Jew to Christianity. Before that he persecuted Christians in the days, weeks, months, years (not really sure of the time line exactly, Luke did his best to date it in the book of Acts) after the death of Jesus.
Paul like many Jewish converts clung to the Jewish traditions. It is discussed in Acts that there were a few of the traditions we should adhere to, but not all of them. Paul I believe still clung to all of them in his new found faith in Jesus.
