3. ASU ( Recent success places them just bairly above MTSU, 2 SBC Champs 1 three way tie Champ and 3 bowls)
2. MTSU ( 3 Bowls and 2 Champs has been more consistent than ASU but ASU has more SBC Titles)
3. UL ( 2 Bowls in which they won and 1 3way SBC Title good for 3rd)

7. FIU (Poor history to start then got 1 shared SBC title with TROY and 2 bowls. lost one bowl and won another)
8. FAU ( 2 SBC bowls in which they won both of them and 1 Shared SBC championship. Weak history in the beginning but puts them just above WKU who also had a weak start)
9. WKU ( 2 winning seasons since they moved to the SBC in football, was Winless for 2 or 3 years. has 1 bowl to show for and lost. 0 SBC titles)
10. ULM ( has 1 three way shared SBC title and 1 bowl to show for in which they were blown out. last year was a good year but that was about the only winning season they have had in a LONG time.)
11. USA (young program first year last year. Lots to prove)
aye do, somethings wrong with your numbers. If we include USA in the 12 year tally, we should include Idaho, NMSU, Utah State (?) and whoever else was formerly in the belt, right? Where would they fit in?
good point...and I fixed it. 1-15
Yes, we have had only one winning season, but we are never last in te conference in FB. We are mid to upper pack every year. Go look it up. Don't get all the ULM hate.

The original poster said perception.Beating Alabama goes a long way on the perception meter.

Im not hating on ULM....but you guys might have been middle of the pack for most the losing seasons but everyone else has had more than 1 winning season. thats why I placed you were you are. UL has been middle of the pack too when they were losing but they have had a couple more better seasons. Curious out of my top 15 where would you rank yourself with 1 winning season?

RE: An SBC Perception Question for the Newbies
I'm going to attempt to put some perspective on the perception issue.
When you are an FCS team you are, to an extent, doing what FBS fans do to the FCS. You are following FCS. You know who the perennially good/great teams are. You know/care about the better teams/conferences but (as in my case) I couldn't tell you the teams in the NEC, Pioneer, or MEAC. Sure, we followed FBS but it is/was, undoubtedly, the "Big" guns.
The only FCS teams that were recognizable to FBS fans were those that made major splashes (App beating Michigan, etc). How many of you guys really, honestly, knew much about TXST before we got the invite?
So, the "big" wins by an SBC team, or TV exposure, is what we, as FCS fans, would go off of. What is/was perceived may not always be reality but....that's my take.

RE: An SBC Perception Question for the Newbies
At this time, the two top football programs in the Sun Belt are UL-Lafayette and Arkansas State by a country mile. They are the only two teams with winning records and bowl wins over the past two seasons. Arkansas State is 20-6 & 1-1 in bowl games, ULL is 18-8 and 2-0 in bowl games. ULM is the only other "New Sun Belt" member who has a winning season in the past two years. WKU isn't counted as they are moving to CUSA.
TWO YEAR RECORDS (2011-2012)
Arkansas State - 20-6 (1-1 bowl games)
ULL - 18-8 (2-0 bowl games)
ULM 12-13 ( 0-1 bowl games)
Troy 8-16
Tx State 4-8
USA 2-11
TOP THREE IN ACTUAL PRODUCTION & PERCEPTION
Arkansas State, ULL, ULM

The OP was what we perceived before we joined or had inclinations of moving up, not what was. Nor from who is left.

RE: An SBC Perception Question for the Newbies
A little late to the conversation but I kept an eye on former FCS teams App had played like Troy, WKU and MTSU. Before we joined I would have ranked the Sun Belt top 3 as Troy, MTSU & Louisiana. When the rumors started picking up I found out more about stAte & ULM. The one thing I always think about Texas State is back in 2005 when they kneeled down at home against UNI with time left on the clock to go to overtime. UNI won that game and we played them for the title. It could have easily been Texas State.

MTSU is playing in CUSA in 2013....correct?
Yeah....but what does that have to do with me showing the Sun Belt has been very close to getting ranked in previous seasons?

Who's hating? Someone has to be last. If ULM isn't last, tell me who is.

Two years is current events. Further back is not as relevant as what is happening now.

I agree, wholeheartedly. So, do the same for CUSA...I feel like it has relevance.

I agree, unfortunately for Troy. Hopefully we're back on track this season. Best of luck to UNT this year.
