GCU over SU
CBU over UT
UTA over ACU

3 pm, UVU v GCU
6 pm, CBU v UTA

No sweep tonight, as UTA narrowly edged CBU 15-10 in the fifth game to take the match.

My heart is still in recovery. There were a few points where I wondered if this was it.

GCU defeats UVU 3-1.

Number one versus number 2 in Arlington tomorrow for the auto-bid.

Some notes for UTA:
All-time, UTA is 10-6 in the conference finals.
The last appearance was 2013 in the Sun Belt, where they lost to Texas State in a sweep.
It was the second tourney final loss after a SFA sweep in 2006.
UTA won six in a row from 1985-'90.
The 23 years since the last finals win is the longest drought in program history.
The previous longest drought was from 1992, where they beat SFA, to 2001, where they beat SFA.
The last opponent UTA beat in the conference finals was Lamar in 2002.

GCU notes:
Joined DI in 2013, they first made the conference tourney in 2019 as a two seed, advancing to the finals against NMSU, an Aggie sweep.
They returned in the following season, a weird COVID year, and again were swept by NMSU.
UVU joined the finals sweep of GCU the next year.
After missing the next year, GCU won their first finals match against an undefeated SFA 3-1.
GCU has made four finals and is 1-3 all time. Counting this year, they made the WAC tourney six times and made the finals five.

Congrats UTA on the Conference Tournament Championship!!!

This was a very close thing. GCU had match point at 14-11, but UTA won five-straight points in set five to snatch away the championship from the Lopes.

SU, SFA, Lamar, IWU, GCU and even Sam fans, it's good to ponder where college athletics are headed. I for one, am curious where UTA will go from here.

If and when we finally resume football, I expect welcome mats will be forthcoming from a couple of conferences. Until then, I'll have to continue to be a volleyball fan. LOL

Honestly, I need to go to more volleyball matches. I know I am missing some good ones.

Just depends on who gets in. As it stands right now, the Mavs have a better RPI than 17 of the 31 auto-bids. A 10-12 seed wouldn't be TCU or SMU. Texas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are in. Baylor, SMU, TCU, Texas-Austin and Texas A&M are likely in. Oklahoma and Rice are a bubble teams.

It also depends on geography. An oversaturated Texas area will send a team or a few to another area of the country.

UTA's main problem is that six of the nine WAC teams were higher than 200 in the RPI. If each WAC team had won one more non-conference match, UTA is a top 40, maybe top 30 team.

NCAA.com had an article with UTA going to Dallas and facing Texas A&M as a 10-seed.

It was fun watching the volleyball tournament seeding show on ESPN this Sunday afternoon.

We are playing 6 seed (out of 8) USC at Gregory Gym in Austin at 4 pm (central) on the 5th.

Oh the memories of Gregory Gym... Way back when, schools in the SW conference did not stress basketball much.
