They didn't do the spending. Congress did. The uncontrolled printing is a direct reflection of Congress. Both parties are guilty of it.

I couldn't get logged in on the Schwab app this morning. Something like "sorry, trouble on our end". No ****. Finally got logged in and see they lost one of my orders. Sold all my stock 3 months ago, saw this coming. Oh, the humanity.

Outdated but it will still get the point across. Somebody explain how this works for a dummy.
Most of the debt, at least in America, is to American citizens. That's not to say there isn't a tremendous amount due to foreign investors as well, but the bulk of it is to American citizens.
RE: Black Monday? Nikkei is getting hammered again
Jobs report my ass! This is about 41 Trillion in red ink, artificially suppressed Gold and Silver, with bogus Crypto because China has backed 5% of the Huan with gold and wants WRC status.
Want to know why Buffet dumped Apple? Any corporation with assets in China is subject to have them seized. Wipe those assets off the books and many will be underwater financially and that's a chunk of Silicon Valley.
Back in the late 80's and early 90's a spy of ours got the Chinese blueprint for defeating the U.S. from the War College in Beijing. It was simple:
1. Buy American Debt and get them indebted to us.
2. Offer them cheap labor sources if they build their plants on our soil. That way they build our industrial capacity while closing their own.
3. Demand debt payments in gold through the World Banks.
4. Trash their dollar on the world market and establish the Renminbi as the WRC. Destabilize their markets by seizing their corporate properties in China.
5. Isolate their trade capabilities while they recover from the economic calamity and they will never again be able to spend enough to stop China's expansion militarily because they cannot resupply a war effort internally, and they will have lost the respect of their current allies.
Well over a decade ago somebody stuck them good with one of those gold payments. It turned out to be gilded tungsten assayed in the U.S., marked by one of the European Central Banks, and given the Stamp of the Bank of England before being shipped. They couldn't prove who did it to them. But that's one of the only laughs that somebody in West has had at their expense because otherwise their damn plan has worked pretty well for them, and we knowing it still played along. How stupid is that!
This is why PAC money is killing us. Corporate influence over Congress has to end and they need to work for our people and not the quarterly statements of Apple, Microsoft, etc.

Nice bounce back today so far, but I suspect the rally will be short lived. I think there is more pain to come. Bonds are pulling back a bit today, if that continues there may eventually be an opportunity for investors add to bond positions before panicked Fed rate cutting begins in earnest (that will happen once its clear to even the Fed that a recession has become unavoidable).

All of these kinds of downturns seesaw for a period of time before hitting a bottom. The uber wealthy don't want panic but in a selloff they will bid some things back up to sell off others and deleverage themselves.
In the Great Depression the seesawing took 3 years to bottom. That said computers speed up the cycles now. We'll know in a year how bad it's going to be but right now who is selling and how much they have sold indicates something stronger than the downturns of the last 40 years. Demographics, Global Politics, Debt Spending, and a National Economic Policy propped up by the WRC Status and the Global Military Situation all say chaos.

Yup. This Yen Carry Trade has been going on for nearly 20 years---so the idea it can be unwound in a couple of days is naive. While nobody really knows how big it is or how deeply it might be woven into various derivative instruments, I think its safe to say its larger than a single day event. Then, there is the whole commercial mortgage situation out there where these financial obligations are no longer backed by sufficient collateral (for instance a huge mid-town NY office building just sold at auction for a 97% discount after receiving just one bid). Just wait till that shoe starts to drop. When added to things you already mentioned----its "when"---not "if" there is going to be a massive repricing of risk assets. Its why I dont think hyper-inflation is our real future outcome----I think its Great Depression era level deflation as the bubble bursts resulting in trillions in paper equity simply evaporating.
