RE: Matt vs McCarthy
But, but McCarthy dammut! LOL. Yeah, go ahead and stand behind this chump...
Quote:It is well past time for Rep. Matt Gaetz to resign.
Since 2017, Matt has over-promised and under-delivered. At best, he can depart with a legacy as a purveyor of outrage and the Panhandle’s Puer Aeternus. Since 2017, Matt has embarrassed his constituents, exploited the platform his office provides, visibly engorged his physical and emotional appetites, and produced nothing of consequence for District I.
What kind of tangible legacy can Matt leave? Will NAS Pensacola be repaired years after Hurricane Sally? Are Hurlburt Field, Corry Station, and Naval Hospital Pensacola safe from the budgetary revenge Democrats and Republicans alike are ready to mete out to Matt and those who send him to Washington? Since 2017, has veterans care in District I improved? Matt excels at telling us what others have done wrong, but what has he done right?
What has Matt Gaetz served in Washington: his political ambitions or your best-interests?
Has Matt led other “conservatives?” He convinced seven out of more than 210 Republican representatives to vote with 208 Democrats to unseat Speaker McCarthy. Throughout Matt’s career, his father and President Trump have mentored him, but this is how he behaves when left alone. In Matt’s last primary, only 25 percent of registered District I Republicans voted for him. Matt Gaetz is isolated in Washington. We are isolated here in Florida because of him.
Matt’s political competence is rivaled by allegations of a libertine personal life.
As a legislator who claims to be “tough” on crime, Matt should know that statutory rape is a strict liability offense. Since Holton v. State in 1891, Florida has recognized that a defendant’s lack of knowledge about a victim’s age is no defense to the crime of statutory rape. Assuming that Matt’s alleged victim was 17 at the time of his lecherous liaisons with her, it follows that she was not even half his age, she was too young to consume alcohol and consent to his alleged behaviors with her. Perhaps, she was younger than Nestor, Matt’s “adopted” son.
Since 2017, we have watched an adult male behave as a child. Watching Matt on the House floor with his arms drooping as he spoke reminded me of watching my sons when they were preschoolers who did not get their way. He has treated his office as a joke: donning a gas mask to vote, insulting anyone who disagrees with him, quoting Chinese propaganda as fact.
As long as Matt Gaetz “represents” us, we remain complicit in his form of politics. He demands that we condone his behavior. He expects us to ratify his conduct as “leadership.” I do not expect Matt to resign, but I know that, in our Republic, the people are sovereign. In the end, Matt’s fate rests with those who send him to Washington: the voters of District I. What will your decision be?

Jordan goes down again. About 170 votes in, he has 12 votes against him already. Doesn't seem to have picked up much support, if any.

RE: Matt vs McCarthy
How telling is it that of all recent republican speakers, there is nobody that anyone here can support for the position?
Republicans are a shining (or not so shining) example of what a political party becomes with no leadership.

Rand Paul's house, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
And he has a small house.
And I heard that he had a real sweetheart for a next door neighbor.

I've said it a few times, the Dems know how to get their folks in line and have them walk lockstep.. While there maybe factions, they all have the common goal..
The GOP just doesn't have it and the current leader of the RNC isn't that person either nor is Trump.
I've supported Trump, but there needs to be a leader that can unite, not further splinter the party.

Let's just let both parties die. Everybody runs on his own merit, and forms voting coalitions wherever. Parties banned forever.

That's because the Democrats represent a Totalitarian form of governance and Republicans are more Democratic. They aren't a "Bloc" so to speak. That is the difference.

Shut Congress down.
That would be a losing position in the elections. The majority of voters out there ultimately want the parties to be able to work together to get things done. Contrary to popular belief, most people are pragmatists and don't believe in the ideologies of the "purists" from either side.

RE: Matt vs McCarthy
People are hammering Gaetz---but the only reason the McCarthy was ever Speaker was because hard liners compromised after being given a few simple reasonable promises---which McCarthy then went on to break. The moderates now are crying because there is chaos. Well---thats what happens when you make a deal and then ignore it. The Republicans will eventually get a Speaker, but the level of childishness on display is something quite special. If nothing else---its quite clear that the "reasonable moderates" in our party are neither reasonable or moderate---something I think we have always known. As Vivek says---they are bought and paid for----and we voters continue to let it happen. We are getting exactly what we deserve.

They weren't protest votes after all. He actually lost votes. Some of us said that this was a stupid idea to begin with for this reason and were told we were the one's being silly.
Now the narrative will shift to how the destruction of the only thing even slightly standing in the way of the dems is a good thing. Republicans didn't even do anything anyway so giving the dems everything isn't any different from what we were getting. Load of BS, but a lot of people will eat it.

Your spell checker must be off LOL. You ding me rep because you're the post police now? I've not discussed Gaetz ad nauseam. Gaetz is a part of this thread topic pal. That article was written from a resident of Gaetz's district and is 28-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve. He is pointing out the issues that Gaetz has created for himself including his House speaker game of thrones.

And the Republicans have a cut off your nose to spite your face wing. They gave us Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. We didn't need to lose 1976 and 1992.
