Hern from OK seems like a good choice. I listened to him last night. He's conservative and the freedom caucus seems to like him as well.

Conservatives should be demanding accountability, and we were seeing none with his leadership.
We were actually having hearings and subpoenas and releasing information. Impeachment has started.

So Gaetz has to understand that Boebert and MGT have more common sense than he does. That's pretty sad. That puts Gaetz down with fire alarm guy and Hank sinking Guam.

Again----Ive never understood this hand wringing over McCarthy. He wasnt very good and he was never anyone outside of Washington's first choice. I dont think the Republicans should seek more bipartisanship or try to be more antagonistic toward the left. I think they should concentrate on getting spending under control, get the border under control, and start legislating solutions to the issues that American families care about. Im good with investigating what is going on with the Bidens. Im good with forcing Homeland Security to do thier jobs on the border. Im good with investigations that expose the political corruption that has led to a two tiered justice system in the DOJ. If that leads to impeachments----so be it.
McCarthy is the first Republican serious about the Bidens and FBI and DOJ. The Republicans in the Senate weren't.
No doubt. By his actions he was focusing on the DOJ and Biden WH with the hearings they were holding - something no prior GOP speaker from Boehner to the present would have done.
Seriously, follow the money wrt to Gaetz. He's no hero. Either someone bought him off or he's a flaming moron.
The two are not mutually exclusive. But I'm leaning towards the latter.
Yeah, I think the latter.

210 to 8. The 8 only have power because too many people like them ran in swing districts (and against all the Dem money) and so the Republicans have a narrow majority when they should have 240-245 seats.

Absurd. Now instead of just giving it to the next man up, after 15 votes mind you, the election for SOTH is open and the best candidate will be nominated. It is highly evident now that McCarthy was NOT the best candidate. Nobody ran against him in January because they didn't want to risk committee placement, which is another problem in this government. Perfectly fine for "leadership" to pshit members, but God forbid members fight back against "leadership". This will be settled next week and the Republican caucus will be stronger for it, and McCarthy will slither away like the last two Republican Speakers. Boy weren't they peaches.

210-8 isnt the real number. McCarthy only had "paper" support out of most of that number. Paper support, as in, if I dont support him I lose my committee assignment if he remains speaker. Considering everyone knew McCarthy had likely struck a deal with Pelosi to remain speaker, they werent willing to risk their committee assignments to vote him down only for the dems to prop him up.

RE: Matt vs McCarthy
So now the impeachment proceedings have ended, the inquiry into Joe Biden's business corrupt dealings has been suspended, the formation of the debt caucus which is to look into specific ways to cut spending has had to stop, and the inquiry into the FBI spying on Americans parents has stopped. Since all these things required the speaker of the house.
I'm sure this will be framed as it's a good thing and nothing would have been done about it anyway. But, all the media was focused on those things. Now it's focused instead on republicans bickering. No matter what that is not a good thing. Biden and the dems are breathing a sigh of relief. Nothing is on them anymore and instead of the walls closing in on them they are now backing off.
And we still have a decent chance to end up with just a handful of republicans that are in blue districts teaming with the dems to make Liz Cheney speaker.

The Dems are correct - this stunt was a clown show because it illustrates how disorganized the GOP is vs the Dems. If all roles were reversed, you'd be ecstatic to see the GOP stabbing speaker Nancy in the back by voting to boot her ass while a small contingent of Dems got the ball rolling to take her out. Still find it "odd and hypocritical"? Of course not because if you see your enemy is about to step into a bear trap...you'd help him do it.
I think it's safe to say that no one here is a huge fan of McCarthy. However, if he was the one who could get the most votes then you have to follow it thru. While he did not follow the exact desires of the MAGA wing of the GOP, he surely did it better than any speaker from the Dem side.
Okay, now what does the GOP do? It was hard enough to get enough votes to override the Dems choice for speaker by supporting the most popular guy amongst the other candidates in McCarthy. If they can find someone more suitable - then I guess it works out. However, very thin majorities are hard to work with anyways so why waste all of this effort with minimal gain? The alternative is the GOP fvcks up and somehow the Dems get their speaker while the GOP has majority in the House. If that happens...Gaetz will look like the biggest buffoon in Washington. Or it will look like he was paid off by "someone" to sow chaos in the GOP.
Ummm hypocrisy has no team in this case. I would call a spade a spade regardless. If McCarthy gave his assurance and then turned on Pelosi when the rubber hit the road that would be ZERO-POINT-ZERO different from my perspective.

Impeachment proceedings are stupid and purely political without a smoking gun directing itself to a real crime.
If they coalesce around one speaker next week then all of those other cases can be reinstated.
Making a mountain of a molehill.

Where was all this concern about a lack of action when McCarthy sent everyone home for a 6 week vacation with only 1 of 12 budget bills passed and a September budget deadline looming? I dont remember a single thread here with people lamenting that all the investigations, budgeting process, and other legislative functions would be delayed six weeks. Nobody cared. Now suddenly, a few days interruption is being portrayed as the end of the world.
Furthermore, now you've thrown out this new worst case scenario where the RINO's will join with Democrats to make Liz Cheney Speaker. So what? If thats truly the case, then McCarthy has been placating the RINO's this whole time basically giving Republicans exactly the same thing we will get under a Liz Cheney/RINO run House. So frankly, I dont see a dimes worth of difference between McCarthy and your worst case scenario. My guess is we come out of this with a Speaker closer to Jim Jordan than Liz Cheney----and I think thats a difference worth fighting for.

Matt Gaetz and a few other republicans voted no on the bill that did pass everything along to the Senate. That had border security, no funding for Ukraine etc. Now it is true that was a full spending bill rather taking it in parts. But, it was still something over nothing. Now do I blame Matt Gaetz for doing that? Not really because I do agree it should be individual spending bills. This did force McCarthy though to get a temp spending bill done with the dems to fund it for 45 days till negations with the republicans could actually produce a full spending bill.
The issue here is with such as razor thin margin you are never going to get a spending bill everyone can agree on. Earlier the spending bill was nixed because it cut to much. Then Gaetz and a handful voted it cut to little and then wouldn't give specifics on what to cut. So they went with the dems.
Republicans in general just being stupid. Sometimes you have to take what you can get. I said it before, but it's worth repeating. When you are trying to form the statue of America to what you want. Sometimes you can only take chips off because that's what the circumstances allow.
Now dems are in control of the narrative.
And no the parents bill of rights, the border security funding, and many other pretty conservative bills that passed the house under McCarthy were not just giving the Rinos all they wanted. The Senate isn't going to pass those because republicans lost the midterms and don't control the Senate. But, pretending those bills didn't come out of the house at all just to satisfy a narrative that McCarthy is just as bad as a dem is just dumb.
And Liz Cheney would be spending the speaker focused on Trump inquiries. You really see no difference between her and McCarthy? Really?

It might actually fit his skill set better than president. Either way----working with people there to accomplish Republican goals for a period would probably be an massive asset in the future if he ends up winning the presidency in 2024.

The pshit is going to hit the fan during these next two quarters, and the media and this administration are going to blame it on the Republicans. Best he stay out of that. The pubs just need to pass bills, make a big deal about it and let the Senate block them till next voting "season".
